Gmail may be awesome, but I'm not touching this one. More IM clients = bad for the users. I don't need three things open at once just because I have friends who refuse to use anything but either AIM or MSN (or HOTMAIL!) as well.

You're an enabler Impossible. Stop talking to these friends that exclusively use MSN or AIM and they'll eventually pick up something else as well. Don't you people know of the Milgram expirement?

Google talk is pretty good for a messaging program. It works, it's simple, and it doesn't look like crap. I'd consider using it if they could [legally] hook up to the other im networks like aim...

The only problem I have with it right now is how it sends some stupid email to every random person you try to add to the friends list, even if you remove them off the list like 30 seconds later. Am I missing something, or is there no way to add people to your list without sending them the omg invitation email, even if they already have google talk?

Google talk is amazing. On msn i have an annoying 'friend' and he always uses the wink smilie. On google talk they dont come up as queer faces so my conversations with him are a bit more enjoyable.

I tried it and quite frankly..... I don't like it.
It takes too long to log in, it lags up my computer and adding your friends is as annoying as hell.
I'm gonna stick with msn this time...

Sounds like you must have a computer that's known in the tech circle as a "piece of shit". Seeing as I manage to log in in under a second and my computer maintains top performance, I do believe you need a new computer. And a better internet connection.

Austrailia doesn't have Trillian, or what?

Well when you hit the button to invite someone, it's obviously going to invite them. Why hit Next if you don't mean it? And if the person you're inviting doesn't have a Gmail account, then it will send an invitation to join Gmail. If they do have an account, a little box will pop up on their screen.

Yeah, but I'm asking if you can add someone to your friends list without actually inviting them. I'm not terribly fond of sending out emails, but I still want to have a friends list of more than 2 people. Eh well.

I don't think you understand. You have to have Gmail to use Google Talk. It's going to send out an invite if you're inviting a non-Gmail email. You can't send out less e-mails than are required.

Trillian is crap.

And is anyone getting really sick of Doovy and co changing their names? I swear, some of them MUST have hit a third one by now. It's fucking annoying. I actually preferred the bad names to the good ones, just because I knew who they were. The exception is Squiggy, who is way more awesome now than he was before (who was he originally again?).
