So I've just watched Steamboy. The new film by Otomo - The Akira guy. I think it's pretty good, I think anybody who enjoys Manga films should watch it, though it is very reminiscent of the Akira and Metropolis films, one of which he wrote (Akira) and he directed Metropolis or something, I think.
So if you see it, tell me what you think. I advise you go see it.

I was thinking about watching it but my friend told me it was a let down Akira. Whats your take on that?

Apart from Tetsuo and Ray Steam looking alike, it's nothing like Akira. Of course nothing can really top Akira, and expecting something to is quite ridiculus, but it's a good film none the less.
I wouldn't say it's a let down Akira at all because it's hard to compare them.

I liked the ideas used in this anime, certainly the gigantic apocalyptic ending ^_^ the use of cgi and 'traditional' graphics and the outstanding voicecast (original one at that) is what makes this a gem of a movie.
Is there more to this then just the movie? the ending did show a lot of 'future' events ...
