I refer not to those hideous mix tapes of pop/rock that might infect a summer action movie or chick flick (though sometimes even those might be really good), but the actual orchestral scores of movies.

Does anyone have any favorites?

Personally, I'm partial to the scores of Last of the Mohicans, Lord of the Rings, and the first two Batman movies when Danny Elfman was still composing the score. Matter of fact, I liked the score of the latest Batman, too. There are a host of other themes I like too.

Just throwing it out there. I've always liked good movie music, ever since I was a kid, maybe just due to the effect it can have on a story and the emotional impact it can help bring across. That's probably one of the reasons I like Lun's selection of music for the Way so much. For instance, his use of the theme from Legends of the Fall in the date scene in E6.

The Lord of the Rings and Donnie Darko had really good music.

My town theme in Animal Crossing was the Imperial March for a while.

I've always liked good movie music, none of that pop crap. A good song can turn a scene from unemotional and cold, to emotional and warm.....

The Pirates of the Carribean soundtrack is awesome. So is the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack, but in a very different way.

Remember the Titans had a great soundtrack.

and the Hellsing series actually. (You can get it on dvd; back the fuck off.)

Curtis Mayfield's soundtrack to Superfly is pretty much the best non-orchestral original score ever. I didn't like the movie much but I loved the music.

I'm also a big fan of Prokofiev's score of Alexander Nevsky, Philip Glasses'ses'ss work for Koyaanisqatsi and Powaqqatsi, and lots of stuff by Jerry Goldsmith and Ennio Morricone. oh, and that John Williams guy, he's pretty good I guess.

I pretty much like most the stuff John Williams did. And really, anything by Danny Elfman is good shit. The score to Out of Africa was supposed to be really good, but I've never really watched the movie (but it's one of my mom's favorites) That's all I can really think of off the top of my head hehe.

Firstly, John williams: I respect him and his works on a musical level to a very high degree, considering I've played the majority of his works. That is a whole lot. I blame this on the fact my conductor/teacher's husband was obviously 2nd choice after learning John Williams was married (yeah, she's pretty obsessed). However, I hate some of his works because even though I've played a good deal of his work, you need to remember, I've played it over the course of 5 years running now. That's basically every other song...not including the medleys.


Prokofiev is a favorite of mine. I thoroughly enjoyed the Lieutenant Kije Suite (Op. 60 (1934)) and loved the score for Alexander Nevsky...great stuff IMHO.


I did a feature on Danny Elfman's work last year. Simpson's theme, Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, and Nightmare before Christmas. Man, that was a fun year.


Anyhow, I liked O Brother! Where art thou? immensely, despite the fact several critcs labeled it a soundtrack seller (which it failed in miserably). I liked the various themes, even though it was very slow-paced. Good times...

The OST to FF7 Advent Children was interesting as well. I'm positive you can find and locate a torrent of it. If it's a small site with a pie graph about the torrent then you found the one I've got. I'm seeding 24/7, but not very much of an upload (700% ul/dl ratio) since I've finished a few weeks back. It gets more interesting in the 2nd cd.

SuperSize Me had a good soundtrack.

My music A level next year might involve studying the LOTR score. It's awesome. The pirates of the carribean music kicked ass too, all of it, not just 'The medallion calls' which is the one that was best and which everyone remembers.

Well, I find myself whistling tunes from star wars without realising all the time, and now that I think of it, it has good music.

Some of the songs in Eurotrip were good.
