what does having a 101 after something mean? for example...

ancient history 101
construction 101

like that... what does that make the meaning?

Well I've never had a 101, but I've had 1F00, 1F01 etc

101 would mean 100 series of courses (first level, freshman), course designation '1'. IE: English 101 would be the primary course of first year english. 102 might be something different in material, but still a first year course, 201 would be a second year, or 'sophomore' course. This is how I understand it at least.

That blows my mind that people came up with Wikipedia articles for all those integers. I was always curious what the big deal about 170 was about - apparently it's a sphenic number. Go figure.
