MIDI controller and probably some sort of production center with DXI

then he takes the MIDI Bars and puts them into Anvil or something to convert to general MIDI

a MIDI controller is a keyboard, like a piano, but just the keys. Like a cheap keyboard you may have gotten for christmas. Anyway it goes in your computer and you play it and record it. The DXI will record which buttons you press onto the bars like on sheet music, you can copy this, put it into a MIDI editor.

If you do try to write your own music, even if it is Midi, fair warning: Writing music/composing can be quite challenging...but the rewards are worth it in my opinion.

Also, even if you have a midi keyboard/controller, you'll need a cable to connect it to your computer either via midi port, or via serial game port.

And, for the record, cakewalk makes a pretty nice midi sequencer in my opinion. (I use Cakewalk Homestudio 9.0)

And also, if you plan on burning a CD of the midi tunes, you'll need to convert them to wav or mp3 format first. Winamp can convert midis to wav format. just search google for directions on how to set it up.

Although, since some of the tunes are lun's own creations, I would suggest asking his permission before burning a CD.
