I vote for a game based in the past, before Ep. 1. I don't care if it's a fan-game just as long as it's any good.

EDIT: I have an idea! Lun or someone could create a comedy version of the way where they go through some crappy-portal thing by accident and end up in FF7 or something like that.
In this day and age, an era where there are people who actually throw shit at each other, anything, could be possible.

Neverwinternights would work rather good, although I'd rather have it made on the next big D&D game, if possible :P

This post made me cry tears of joy. Sadly, I think the two of us are the only people here that are aware of how awesome Neverwinter Nights is..

And the aura system would be a bitch to script, Then again, We could work on this for Neverwinter nights 2 that will be out in 5 months.. The scripting in NWN will still work in NWN 2. This site has some decent guides about makeing new spells, feats, and classes in NWN. http://nwnprc.netgamers.co.uk/index.html

As for hakpacks and tilesets... We could likely get everything we need from the here.. http://nwvault.ign.com

Though we would need a permission from Lun, And a disclaimer saying that this server is based on The Way. As we cannot truly weave a story truthful enough to the game without Lun's aid.

Then we would need someone to run a Server to host this thing 24/7..

Nothing would be more awesome then this, But this is quite a project...

of course it would be a fangame.. Lun is a genius and it would be totally different than if he made a continuation of his own. I think it would be interesting since The Way is so complex, to see others' views of how it would go on.

If you can, try working on it, I loved NWN, and if the sequel if coming I'm probably going to get it.

I have been pondering on a conversation of The Way to Neverwinter nights... even without the plunge, it could be very interesting. Plunge will help, though. :)

I would never install the disappointment that is NWN on my PC again. I am however looking forward to the sequel by Obsidian. So, please consider planning it for NWN2 instead of the previous, well, abomination of gaming nature.

And you can not reply to me not liking NWN since this isn't the gaming forum, HA! :P

The beauty of Neverwinter Nights does not lays in its official content nor the campaign. It is all in the community. There are well over a million of modules if you are one for single player, But Neverwinter Nights truly shines in online roleplaying. And thanks to Neverwinter Nights nature the community, With some effort, Can create or script nearly anything into the game, Classes, Monsters, Feats, Cursed items, Teleportation, Scrying, Morphing, Soul stealing, Crafting, Guns, World maps, Fighting styles, MMO scale battles, All of these have been done. And these are just examples.

And there is no point makeing it for NWN when NWN 2 is only 5 months away... But I am not a scripter, Nor a good mapper. Sure, I could learn, But if I am to make this thing alone... It would take around 8 months at the least, Beside, Even it would be done... Who could host it? A NWN server needs to be rather powerful and has to run 24/7. The hardware itself could cost quiet alot and maintaining it would also add a monthly cost....

Unfortunately, I do not even own NWN at the moment. However, I am a skilled Descent III mapper, and an beginner/intermediate UT2K4 mapper, so I could learn to make some of the stuff decently quick. As for scripting... I know C++. There's no way NWN scripting is harder to learn or use than C++. So, I could help out a bit. However, being a jack of all trades, I'm not quite a master of any of them. So between us two, we would still need like two more people to really have a good project. AND I'd have to buy and learn all the crap of NWN. My computer actually can't run it right now (because it sucks pretty badly), but I'm planning on getting an upgrade soon.

I know VB and Ruby and am currently doing a software development course at college, however, my home computer doesn't have a working internet connection anymore and I've never even heard of NWN.

Well, I heard you can find the original NWN for 5$ these days... But if you want to take a look at all the scripting options that are correctly used you should get the platinum edition. Though I would advice that you should wait for Neverwinter nights 2.

Mapping in NWN 2 will be done differently then in NWN, It will no longer be tile based so I am sure that nearly anyone with some measure of artistic skills could learn to map well in NWN 2.

Scripting is not too difficult in NWN, And if you learned C++ you will have no problem with it, However, If you wish to script you also need to fully understand the D&D rules and terms.

And you would also need a more powerful machine to actually run NWN 2...

I am not much of a scripter and I suck at tileset area building but in NWN 2 the areas are not using tilesets so I can be a mapper. I am also rather good at makeing flavorful items and since I know the game system inside out I can balance it, Help with creating classes feats spells etc etc ect...

I do pretty much the same in NWN servers I am helping correctly, Outside of mapping. (Meaning, Balancing, Setting the power level, And designing items and monsters)
