a shadowlord without a paint job so in fact jopanga takes all the corpses to his underground lab... works his mojo on them... paints them a lil.. fits them in a tight leather clad thingy and then they go around eating

FF7 is the most overrated piece of junk ever. It is pushed on solely by its story, which isn't as great as most people think.

I had a big argument about story vs gameplay a while back. Gameplay is infinitely more important (for those of you that lack the common sense to realise games weren't made to be interactive books or movies, which are much better at telling stories), but I'm willing to accept it if the gameplay is acceptable (e.g. no random battles, no need to level up), and even moreso if the story is the most awesome thing ever, like The Way (> shit > FF).

meh.... everybody is intiteld to his or her own opinion... I like every rpg for certain touches you find in it that makes it different from any other story... ok there are some games that suck no matter what... but these are rare...
FF7 might have been seriously overrated, but the characters still hold a soft spot in my heart... as it was the first ff I ever played... guess everybody has that with his or her first ff... still,overrated or not, there's a sequel coming out in movie terms and in game terms theres a prequel and a sequel coming soon... so you might consider the fanbase it's still having till this date... so it's gotta have its good and strong points no? and consider this before you dis a game... would YOU be able to do better???
I guess among us the only one capable of saying YES would be Lun and his crew (INDEED I SAID CREW-> yay to the girl (or boy ) called maya that made the facesets! not easy to make good qualitycustom facesets ya know... and yay to the ppl that made custom midi's and all...)... OK and now for some serious asskissing... HUZZAH TO LUN ^_^

BTW i'm making a seriously rewritten remake to secret of evermore... one of the most verbally destroyed games ever... (rewritten means that it's in fact a completely new game and the new story is just based on the original for names and locations...)

SoE was a disgrace to one of the greatest games Squaresoft ever made. I think they learnt not to let Square of America out of their cage after that... Why didn't they release SD3, anyway? I hope S-E port/remake it for the GBA or DS eventually...

Good RPGs are ones that aren't pushed by a story, but by everything that makes up the damn game. Story, gameplay, the whole feel of a situation. There's hundreds of little things that make a player feel a certain way. Things no one even notices.

Example: Usually most RPGs feature the second hero to join as a little weaker than the main hero physically. This reinforces a sort of pseudo-trust in the hero. The player goes "This new guy sucks, but this hero here, he's the man." secretly in his mind.

True !! imagine how many secrets that most of us walked by when we were playing the way and didn't notice at first play trough...
the mirror thing was one of those ...
And i still don't know what's so horribly wrong about soe... it was maybe not the best game out there but it had some very nice moments!

Seiken densetsu 3 rulz!!
the remake of seiken densetsu 1 aka mystic quest for game boy on the gba kicked serious ass... imagine an overhaul like that or a new original game that would feature char's from the whole seikendensetsu series ...

SD3 rules, SoE does not.

SwoM was a great idea, but it was pulled off badly. The big flaw was lack of difficulty - we either need the % bar from SoM or the recovery time/difficulty to balance it from SD3. Without either, the whole thing falls apart.

S-E have announced a BRAND NEW Seiken Densetsu game for the Nintendo DS.

I don't think FF7 is overrated at all. It was also my first FF and even my very first RPG I ever played, so that may influence me a little.

The story is interesting, mysterious and features characters unlike most other RPGs who feature more generic, cliche type characters.

I, for one, loved the gameplay. The materia system goes much much deeper than you might think theb first time you play through. Unfortunately, not many people explored the many different strategies and materia combinations simply because the game is far too easy (something almost every game suffers from these days, even The Way).

And you can't deny FF7 has some of THE BEST video game music ever composed.

Having said that, there are also things FF7 misses to make it a truly perfect game, but I fail to come up with any at this time.

My favorite video game ever is Xenosaga Episode 1. It resembles The Way in many ways and has captivated since I started playing it. That's a game I call perfect (or as perfect as something human-made can be).

Please don't flame me for my opinion, even though I seem to be in the minority concerning FF7.

And yes, I cried when Aeris died.
