Alright...

Maybe they sacrificed him to the King of the Pits so Sacrifa could be uber buff?

>_>

I don't want to say this, but I think Alan was killed by Sacrifa. They kill him, hide his body...

When Alan's legs were sticking out, I thought it was that the PS had killed him and stashed his body there...

Guess we'll just have to wait for Ep 6. :D

lol. We're a rare breed on message boards aren't we?

I still find it curious about Alan though. I suppose he must be alive, because Lun usually uses blood to a high extent, and there was no blood on the character set...

I alway thought that Alan was just comic relief, but if that was really him in the bushes he might become much more important.

When the **** hits the fan is a lot of plots, even the comic relief has a role.

I actually felt sorry for him when Slade was beating him senseless, and probably aiming to kill him. Just shows you how downtrod Alan is.

If a character ultimately plays a major role in this fashion, then he is not merely comic relief, no?

Said character may provide comic relief, but he can't be just comic relief.

Specifically with respect to Alan, I never figured him for pure comic relief. My initial judgement was based pretty much on intuition, but I still think he has a more significant role to play, whether he's actually dead or alive.

As to that last question, consider the following points. First, those certainly may not have been Alan's legs; if the Phantom Slasher can have a facial outline so similar to Gaius, yet not be Gaius, then why can't two lyns have the same trousers? (Of course, Gaius may yet be the Phantom Slasher, so maybe this specific argument isn't so compelling.) Second, it does seem likely that whoever was in the bushes is still alive. Rhue is not one to dawdle on The Way; this has been a fact emphasized since the beginning of episode one, when it was suggested he might catch up to and join the forerunners. It is therefore hightly doubtful that he's going to go back to find that dead body. Since it seems kind of pointless for Lun to put the legs there and then not have their owner play any further role, this would mean that the person lying in the bushes would have to move forward on The Way to meet up with our (anti)hero Rhue. That's a lot easier to manage if he's alive and he doens't have to be carried the whole way.

So whether or not those are Alan's legs, it seems likely their owner still lives. This would obviously be particularly significant, because then he might be a witness to the identity of the Phantom Slasher. Of course, there are also situations where it might appear the the Phantom Slasher has killed people for no other reason than to prevent their having witnessed him. The murder of the tavern wench definitely could fall into this category. (The Slasher hesitates quite a while between saving her and beheading her, you should remember.) However, if Alan (or whoever) appeared to the Phantom Slasher to be dead, this might not be a problem.

Alan is meant to be one of the most unique characters. His legs dawdling there are meant to be his. Very rarely are disguises used in RPG plots not used by the heroes, they look like bad stitching of a plot hole.

Second, it does seem likely that whoever was in the bushes is still alive. Or his entire "lying there" is supposed to suggest Sacrifa came upon him and killed him. A lying body just outside of the firelight, they couldl've easily killed him and tossed his body away. Of course, it's a pathetic death, but it's the kind of death Alan would get.

1) I think Sacrifa's most viable of a witness

2) I think that was more for dramatic irony so she could try and voice a thanks before she got t3h killed

First of all, I don't think just wearing blue pants qualifies as being disguised as Alan. :)

Seocond, if that is Alan and he is deceased, how is Rhue going to find out about it? Rhue isn't going to go back to that forest (unless he has to, because he's now at the end of the The Way), so either somebody else will need to tell Rhue of Alan's death, or they will have to carry Alan's body forward to wherever Rhue is. The first option is lame and undramatic, and the second is somewhat silly. Why would anybody carry Alan's body around?

The other options are that we never hear about that dead guy in the bushes again (this seems spectacularly unlikely, espcially if it was Alan) or that Alan is still alive and can bear witness to something.

But having the exact same pants as on Alan's charset qualifies, neh?

Simply said: Rhue doesn't know about Trazuin, Kalmar, the Kloe/Gaius relationship, Eyashu's death and the Scatha/Dirk relationship. Does he need to know this? No. But do WE learn it? Yes. A lot of events are better revealed with the hero never knowing. Alan's death with a completely neutral atmosphere is more shocking. Our beloved Alan is killed and no one even cares, kind of magnifies the sadness of it. I'm not saying he's dead, but there's a GOOD chance.

I just don't consider the pants evidence very compelling. I'd give it about a 60% chance of being Alan.

Moreover, as we have seen from these disagreements about whether that's Alan, just having those legs there will not be sufficient even for us, the players, to know that Alan is dead. Somebody in the game is going to have to confirm it. If Alan (or whoever) is dead, this will likely mean one of two things. Either we get a scene in which one of the characters stumbles across the dead bodies, including Alan's (or whoever's); or, they find his body off camera and report on it later (I assume this will probably mean reporting on it to Rhue, or at least in Rhue's presence, since he witnesses most of the conversations we see). The second option sounds pretty weak; the first is more of a possibility, but based on the locations and situations of the major characters, it would somewhat hard for any of them to find the body.

My best guess is that somebody finds the body off camera, but Alan is still alive. The person who finds Alan will most likely be either a minor character or Kloe. This individual (or there may be more than one) helps Alan continue along the Way, and at some point after Rhue returns from the detour (to Landorin?) that he and Gaius are currently on, Rhue will meet up with Alan. Alan will either be in the company of his rescuer, who will be helping him stumble along, or he will be in bed and recuperating.

If someone find Alan alive, it probably won't be Kloe since she was last seen following Rhue into the cave where Gauis was waiting. Maby it will be Traziun. Of course this is only if that therory is correct.

Was she? I guess I misremembered. Where did Scatha and Dirk end up, because they seem like the next most likely ones to find him? (Plus, it would easier to have the pair of them carrying his limp and battered, yet still breathing, body.)

Somehow, I don't think saving Alan would be high on Traziun's list of priorities. He didn't want to save Gaius, way back in episode 1. He's also got a lot on his mind right now, after his expiring father put the whammy on him.
