Gizmo, I could own you anyday, I write about one poem every fourth day. and it's not crap either, it's good shit that I actually have gotten payed for.

And I can swim faster than you!

Wow. I think that's the most unintelligent thing i've heard you say yet. Normally when I read what you post I think, "Wow. What a fucking moron." And I don't give you any more of my time than that. But having the audacity to say that your own poetry is "good shit," I think you deserve to be beaten and then fed to poor Ethiopian kids who like raw flesh. I've taken a few Creative Writing workshops, and we have a name for people like you. Poetry Sluts. You come to the workshop to read your work to everyone else, and expect to be praised as a god, and then when others read, you only disrupt by talking to the person next to you about how good yours is, why you chose certain words, and the way in which you prepare yourself for writing. Once again, I think I have to tell you to grow up.

Alright, Inderos. That's quite a rant (although I do know where you're coming from).

To return vaguely on topic, I just sent Lun a donation. I had been meaning to since I finished Episode 5, and all this discussion reminded me to get about it. Thanks to my wife for her PayPal account. (I can't remember the password to mine.)

Long live The Way!

Fucking hypocrite. No, you're not actually allowed to change your mind like that after making an idiot of yourself.

Inderos, have you even seen any of my poems besides the ones in the poems topic? Do you think i'm the only ones who read them, geez man, seriously if you are going to flame someonie atleast have somethiong to back it up. Poetry slut? oh yeah I might be that, I do write poems frequently, and whats wrong with that? sure it makes me kind of a romantic sissy who actually has feelings and knows how to express them.
You actually hurt me by that post, I actually got a little depressed, but then I don't know you, you might just say theese things to amke you look cool. Hell if I know.

EDIT: yes I think my poems are good, if I don't think they are good they end up in the trashcan.

back to topic, we don't have dollars as currency in sweden, how can I donate to lun? is ity possible to use a visa card?

I'm not a hypocrite. I've only ever yelled and bitched on this forum twice now. I don't go to every post on every thread and do it, like you do. He just happens to be unlucky that I have a pet peeve for people who worship poetry. Poetry should worship, not be worshipped. Poems are most often written about beautiful women(As they should be!), common maxims(Such as The Road Less Travelled), and places the author has been to and made an impact on them. The whole point i'm trying to make is if you write your poetry just to hear other people tell yo u you're good, you're a very sad person indeed. And no, i've never read any of Tele's poetry. I don't have to. It wouldn't matter how good my own work is, I would never say, "This is good shit." You shouldn't preface your work with any kind of comments like that, because it can result in biased opinons. And truth be told, all it is is arrogance. There is a point where you can have too much self-confidence. Unless you're me.

I never claimed that you were a sappy guy just because you write poetry, Tele. I never implied that because you have feelings, that makes you weak. I write poetry too.

And Impossible, you're horrible at this whole, "Thinking," thing, despite what you might say. When approaching my argument earlier, you did nothing but attack the writer instead of the idea. That's the lowest form of argument and debate.

Once again, I'll end my post with saying that I don't hate anyone here, there are just certain things that bother me.

Well, thanks for clearing that out, I thought you attacked me... oh well no harm done.

And I base the fact that my "shit is good" on that the few poems i've let people see I've gotten positive feedback on.

Since it's become a controversial point, and I have naught else to do just now, I have reread most of your poetry, and I thought I might offer a few comments. In general, your technique is good. Your word choices work well, and I would suggest that you continue to hone this talent, because in poetry, diction is critically important. The writing is also very emotive; you are quite effective at carrying your reader to a particular affective location. This is another crucial skill required for the production of facund verse. (I think, however, that you might want to shift your selection of topics somewhat; see below.)

I would suggest that you might want to reconsider somewhat the format of your poems. There are two points about your work that struck me in this respect. First, many of your poems seem very regimented in form; sometimes this works for you, but sometimes I think it diminishes the effect, because the strictures of the form come to dominate the impression that you leave, squeezing out the detailed structure of the verbiage. Second, your poems often seem a bit overlong, and some careful pruning might improve them. You seem perhaps to be trying too hard to make your points.

Your work also seems to focus too much on teenage angst. All adolscents experience the same feelings of isolation and bitterness that your poems express, and this does give your work a measure of univesality; however, it also means that there is very little one can say in this area that will seem authentically original. Moreover, while your commitment to the subject matter is evidently profound and sincere, the emotional states you portray actually seem rather overplayed. While your writing might seem deeply resonant to someone your own age, it is likely to sound vapid and excessively self-absorbed to an adult. In fact, the callow difficulties you describe are frequently looked back upon as rather humorous trifles. As trying as puberty may seem as one experiences it, one can easily come to laugh at these circumstances in retrospect.

I do not mean this as a criticism of you, personally. My own poetry suffered from the same difficulties when I was younger. This is a common characteristic of art produced in youth. (It applies in arts beyond writing, as well. Mozart, who developed his compositional style before he was ten, wrote beautiful music, but it's all very puerile in its emotional depth.) Your emoting is easily effective enough that you could turn it to another topic--even one that you may personally feel somewhat less invested in--and still produce worthwhile verse.

Now that's what I call intelligent ranting!
THIS IS WHAT I MEAN WITH GOOD CONVERSATION!
See this is what we need more of on this board! KEEP IT UP Dsok! I even learned something from your comment reviewing some of my own poems...

Yeah, my poems tend ho have a very similar construction, usually even rhymes, but then, as a wise frined of mine once said: you're still young.

But then, i've written some very... odd poetry, like one about a shrimp sandwich.

Oh well, i'll take this in mind and i'll try to experiment with some new things... like alliteration and stuff.

That topic sounds like it has some real potential.

No poem could be worse than "Ode to a Small Lump of Green Putty I Found in My Armpit One Midsummer Morning".

Grow up folks

Postby Iorek » Fri Oct 08, 2004 3:36 pm

Haha, alright, looks like inderos is one of the next "Crestfallen few" members to use proper grammar in the forums. There are too many people who utilize typing on the internet (and in papers in word documents) in a lazy and incredulously stupid way. However, no longer can these people be classified as English inept and linguistically lacking, but rather just as a general lazy person. Intillegent conversations are lacking, people, pick up a book-and stop arguing with profanity, in opinion, debating and arguing in a cool and civilized manner shows self control and perhaps virtue I'd say. This is a message pretty much every one on the board, now flame away.

Just to stay on topic, I think I'll be making a donation sometime soon, prayerfully.
