Not too bad an idea, although I doubt at heart he's an interesting enough character to make for a really compelling storyline.

I haven't word from Lun that the sequel to The Way will be titled: The Adventures of Rhan: Life as a God.

Should be good, I say.

To answer the person who said that we're all lazy because we don't want to find sprites. Incorrect. While that is part of the reason, maybe it has something to do with the fact that it is slow as all holy hell, glitchy, and otherwise inferior to the kickassness of the Dragon Warrior/Quest style battle system. There's also the fact that RM2K is MUCH more popular. And it's Lun's choice. And screw you. Yeah, I can be blunt.

I'm not very compelled to agree with you. If someone is involved enough with The Way to make a fan game, they'll probably already be a part of this community. Another thing: People could make Legion Saga fangames (Legion Saga being the only Rm2K game I've heard of that got fangames) because they weren't hard. Trying to reproduce the plunge is hard on a basic level. I've actually attempted to copy the coding from The Way (out of shear novelty), and there're so many levels of complexity, you'd need to be quite a pro at RM2K to manage it, in which case, you're probably not going to waste time copying and pasting. Another detail is that Kamau pretty much babied anyone who announced a fangame. He put up a section for every single fangame announced; people like to see "superiors" acknowledge their work.

If people respect Lun's work enough to want to make a fangame, they're going to ask his permission first. And when he says no, they'll respect his judgement. If by some bizzare chance, somebody does make a fangame, chances are it'll suck majorly, because if anyone has enough skill to make a good game, they're not going to use it to make a fangame for an Rm2K game (Nigsek isn't included under any of these accusations). Although rm2K games are a legal dispute themselves, the concept of The Way and its mechanics are the intellectual property of Lun, and although he's a nice guy, I wouldn't doubt his ability to defend his own property. I haven't seen any interest at all in a way fangame. Someone brought up the question a while ago, but it's been a dead topic since.

Fangames can vary in kind however. You could say making a "Plunge Online" is a fangame as well. And that DID have its share of attention on this forum.

I'd ask Lun first if I was going to spend time making such a thing. I know one thing, I wouldn't want people messing with my world, my universe that I created for my own games so I understand Lun's stance.

I just wanted to point out two things. First, game mechanics are specifically excluded from copyright law; the only way to gain intelectual property protection for such would for them to depend upon a patentable invention. Second, were someone to make a game, there would really be nothing anyone could do to restrict its distribution. The Internet is too fluid an medium for this to be possible.

Jer: I only agree with you on the Kamau bit. He basically is a publicity whore.

And the reason XP is popular is because you CAN CUSTOMIZE ANYTHING ROXOR.

Neglecting to realize every normal language allows this and doesn't suck like Ruby

RMXP is a lot better than RM2K. I really don't see why everyone is against RMXP. And don't tell me "IT'S TEH ILLEGAL!!!11!1!". I mean, they're both illegal you know.

Ruby is very much like Java, so are you saying Java sucks as well?

The problem with most RM2K users is they think they found the holy grail and CAN NOT ACCEPT something better has been released, even though it has a steeper learning curve.

I could show you systems I made in RMXP that would not even be remotely possible in any of the older RPGMakers.

Having said that, there's nothing wrong with RM2K either. It's easy, fast, but limited in what you can do.

Well, opinions vary ;)

I'm all for multi-platform compatibility and Java has that (as one of the only langauges). I agree it has some rough sides and it's certainly much more limiting than say C++ or Visual Basic, but it does a great and easy job in what it can do.

Same thing with Ruby. You can do anything you'd like to do in RMXP. Why would you want more?

Java is certainly simple enough, but that's part of the problem. As a language, it has a tremendout amount of overhead. That is to say, is uses resources far in excess of what is required for a given task. This is fine if you're learning to program, but it's terrible if you're producing commercial software.

Yeah, I guess that's true. Although if you're good you can minimize the overhead a lot. You'd have to write your own basic classes for that though and that's just not worth it. If you want minimum overhead C++ is the way to go. Unfortunately, it's also the hardest of all the current third generation languages.

I've never heard of languages being given in "generations." I suppose pretty much anything that would be in commercial use now you consider third generation, and FORTRAN must be first generation. (Machine code would be either first generation or zeroth.) But what is second generation? COBOL? Pascal?
