Just create an open RPG.
Everyone chooses their own path and such.

But, if you want to be controled... then just have set scenario for different classes such as Bloodlyn, Shadow Foot, etc.

Well, if Lun is releasing an online plunge system soon, then there's no reason for me to make another one. So yeah. I guess I should email Lun and talk to him about this. And it's not like I don't have other ideas as well.

Later though...I'm a bit too tied up with my current game for my ISP, which is practc for making a network game anyways.

So what is being made, anyway? An online Plunge, or The Way itself online? The thing is that either of them, but especially the latter, is gonna end up with the same problems that plague so many MMORPGs. One obvious example is the huge differences in power between people based on how much of a lifeless loser each player is.

Yeah, an MMORPG wouldn't work in The Way universe. A plunge online has otential, but if it's just that and nothing more it will get boring FAST.

The best thing would be an online hangout where you can chat, plunge, see the rankings, train against AI opponents, set up your Blade Arts, Link Attacks, etc...

Also, it would need a lot more Blade Arts for each step than there are now or you'll have people master them all in less than a week.

Maybe a point system where you can buy notch items (for strides, threshold, critical %, ...) would also be a good idea. Don't include Lyn Rocks though or the balance will be screwed in no time 8)

If all or some of these features will be in, I'll be having a new thing to waste my time on :)

you'd have to fight for the notch items to level, just as in the game...

I think MMORPG will be better.

But... why not we can't link it in 1 game? :D

an mmorpg?

hmm, that'd be pretty hard, unless each server was a settlement with a little surrounding stretch.

you'd start out in something like estrana and walk around meeting people, plunging like crazy and then heading out to kill random spestas and stuff?

No I don't think you should start in Estrana. You should start were the story started and work your way up to Estrana.
<WarV> You know what this place needs?
<Strayed> hookers?
<@Jeramyu> boobs?
<WarV> How about hookers WITH boobs!
<Strayed> I don't like fat guys.

The problem with MMORPGs is that they're really hard to make. Even harder to maintain and add new content.

The replayability of a Plunge game is really low. Sure, it would be a novelty for a while, but would get boring really quick. The MMORPG would be...nice, but to implement it and keep it running with new content every now and then would be really, really hard to do.

Oh, and before everybody gets all excited, remember that the Way is not completed yet as a RPG. Wait until the series end, and then we can speak of a way to do a MMORPG.

Also, Lun must approve it. It IS his creation after all!

I noticed that some people are talking about an online plunge and maybe a MMORPG for The Way. I've always wanted to do some network programming so I actually did code the framework for an online plunge game back in December. Iamtheverb helped me test it out and it played pretty smooth. It's in a pretty raw form right now though. There are no Blade Arts or Link Attacks and I haven't set up a PHP page to keep track of hosted games, stats, etc. Network programming is probably the most difficult type of programming I've ever done so it's been a good learning experience thus far. Hopefully I'll get more done in the future as I further develop my programming skills.

looks like he approves to me but yeah i don't know if i'd want one until the series is finished
