I haven't reached the end of ep 5 but a theory:

I need to write this down:
SPOILERS:
Velica is a loyalist. Gauis is a rebel working with the blood lyn.
Velicia and Gauis give each other information. However, Gauis is the PS and only works with the Rebels as a cover...

Oh I finished it, Strata was too hard...

He's supposed to be hard, an adversary only extremely strong Rhue's can handle, in other words, a near maxed out character.
Don't feel bad about it though, I didn't beat him either. Besides, I'm glad I didn't beat him because I honestly can't see why he's impossible to beat earlier in the episode and possible to beat later on. I feel like I have a more realistic game
That's probably just an excuse so I can feel better though

You don't have to be that strong. I beat him with a Plunge of 10 and 112 HP. I was damn lucky, though.

I have a hard time not beating Strata with a 4-step injury on the first pass.

Rhue getting stronger maybe?

Yeah yeah, I've heard it all before. And Strata is tired because he's been running after Lyrra and fought Cetsa, yada yada yada.
It's just a clever gameplay mechanic, nothing more. You couldn't beat him at first because that's not how the story goes, but the second time, it's to feel good about yourself and the game, JUST before it says : "To be continued".

You are very observant. Sometimes certain things must be sacrificed for the good of the story (which is the main point anyway.) Lun really did feel that he needed to at least give people
a chance to defeat Strata after all the pain he causes you.

At first I was going to give up on him, but after finding out you get backlash, I went back and spent countless battles until I got lucky with a step 4 injury and won.

It's ALWAYS good to beat someone who beated you
