okay what exactly is the purpose? Is it like our fate? or is it like a godly type thing? ...or is it like that buddhist life force thing?

oh and is it good or evil?

The purpose is a bastard

Wanderer's Guide Book

According to this, it's an all-powerful being, so I'm guessing omnipotent, god-like thing.

If any of us knew what the Purpose was, we'd be Lun. The true nature of the Purpose is one of the great mysteries of The Way. It is one of the "structural" mysteries--those related to The Way itself, rather than the exploits of Rhue. Other structural mysteries concern the forerunners, the upper way, the mists, etc.

According to the ending of ep5, though, it seems the two kinds of mystery are kinda related.

Maybe the Purpose is the Phantom Slasher... Just a thought.

hmmm...the purpose is a god like character
going about in physical form hacking people to bits seems a bit off for a god like character.
although, if the phantom slasher IS rhue...could rhue be the purpose?
maybe thats why evrything is so f'ed up on the way at the moment.

Maybe I've been playing Baten Kaitos a little too much, but what if the purpose is actually... US...? By that I mean the gamers...
That would be pretty cool, gameplaywise I mean and it would make sense.... In a way that is...
Doesn't Therin say that it sometimes talks to them... you could interpret this connection between the purpose and the characters as us manipulating the sprites.
It's just a wild guess anyhow so don't flame ok?

Yes, I think you have been playing Baten Kaitos too much. Nothing wrong with that though :)

Uhhh, I hope not. Last time I saw something like that they took the "I feel like someone is guiding us" joke convo from Chrono Trigger and spun it into the unmitigated crapfest that is Chrono Cross's plot.

The whole Baten Kaitos thing really isn't that important to the plot, atleast as far as I've seen which is up to The Celestial Alps.(Can't beat the damn boss). It really seems the whole point of the spirit thing is just so the whole twist halfway through the game makes more sence.

Never played Chrono Cross, and I'm up to the lava caves at the moment in Baten Kaitos, so don't tell me anything after that.

I'm new, but REALLY into the Way. I think the Pupose guides people to make good desicions and do the right, or wrong, thing.

EXAMPLE: In some Episode,I forgot which, Rhue did not want to kill the Father when he was almost dead. The Father told him to kill him, he did. Since the father told him, the Purpose heard it. The purpose told Rhue to do it, so he did.
