First off - I'm sorry if something like this has already been posted, I'm lazy.

Right, then. Something I can't understand is when Rhue is forced to kill Lyrra (quite easily ) Strata all of a sudden goes caring (WIMPY) and says stuff like "You were right about what really mattered..." and I'm like ... "HUH?". Since when does a dirt bag like STRATA actually show emotion? I'm pretty sure he's seen people killed before so his "first sight of death" can probably be ruled out. Has ANYONE else been confused by this?

Yeah, me too. It reminded me of an example we received in Literary Analysis classes, which described how a drastic change in the goal of the character through the story needs to be backed up by a realistic catalyst. Things like "He suddenly realised..." don't really cut it.

Yeah, but Strata didn't JUST 'suddenly realize'. He saw Lyrra cut down by Rhue and that WAS the realistic Catalyst. Even Strata has feelings, even if he is cruel and selfish.

Strata freaking manipulated Lyrra into following him. Lyrra fell into the trap, and indeed followed him. I mean, (I'm sorry, but I MUST put this down) I believe he BEDDED her that night we saw Kloe go into her Inn! (Please, feel free to be disturbed by this idea). And then once he saw Cetsa he just felt like he needed a new trophy so he dumped his old one.

Does THIS put some reasons for my question into the pot, shall we say, hm? (And because I hate Strata's guts )

Maby its one of those "you don't appreciate what you have until its gone" things. I does seem strange how he acted though.

Exactly. A shocking event is not enough to make a character's personality change so drastically. Strata didn't care about Lyrra at all, but when Rhue kills her, he suddenly thinks she was what "really mattered"?

What would be more realistic would be something like Strata being pissed at Rhue for killing HIS ex, seeing how much he considers his women to be his property.

It didn't feel strange to me. When Rhue told Strata about Jed's death, he did consider Lyrra's feelings, if but for a moment. Also, I think Strata means it when he says he likes Lyrra's stories (but probably also when he says he's gotten tired of them). In the end, when she dies, Strata does realize that he's lost something. The thing is, he doesn't get emotional a whole lot, so it may be that he can't handle the emotions coming at him when Strata's biggest rival kills his former girl.
I think the change in personality is justified. When Rhue lost Lexus, he kind of went through the same thing. He has killed before too, even 3 innocent wanderers (heh) so this shouldn't hurt him so, right?

It made sense to me. Strata may never have actually seen a person kill another person before, (someone correct me if I'm wrong, but he doesn't kill Rhue in Ep 1, and he walks off before seeing if he dies) and passed it off as unimportant. However, now he's actually seen a person kill another person, and it's two people he knows, one who he (possibly very, very deep down) cares about. I'd say that that's an adequate catalyst.

Another reason could be because he wanted to look cool. I'm sure its not the primary reason, but could easily be a secondary reason.

Why was STRATA running away from LYRRA?

That's just creepy...Lyrra being stronger than the highly-possible new Pharaphalyn? Now that's just downright insane.

I don't think it was Lyrra being stronger than Strata, as such, more Lyrra wanted to kill Strata, and he was unwilling to kill her.

I wonder if Lyrra really went insane because of Scatha's peptalk, or if it was the Shadow Sword that did it.

Maybe it was both.

Alright, I just KNOW I need to be replaying the game.

People are talking about Lyrra having a Shadow Sword...I don't think she took it out of Slade or whatever...did she? I am really confused.

Well, Rhue smashed Lyrra's sword out of the screen after killing her. He did the same with the Shadow Sword that was hidden under Ballar's house in Lide. It's likely Slade's sword was also special, seeing how Rhue's sword reacted to it during the plunge between them.
