Were the shadow sword weilders inspired by Highlander? You know, Duncan McCloud, etc?

It seems so. The shadow sword weilders are immortal, the main guys in high lander are immortal. When the great guys in highlander kill another immortal they absorb their life, their abilities, and their memories. When a shadow sword weilder kills someone the same happens.

Who thinks highlander inspired The Way?

Somehow I think Highlander wasn't the first touse immortality and souldrain, but meh, maybe it was inspired by it.

Meh indeed. Inspiration, maybe not. Yet there are loads of similarities. It's hard to write anything without someone spotting a connection you never intended.
