The Way Resources

Postby RpgmPersonell » Wed Apr 12, 2006 3:42 pm

Can someone mind to tell me what resources I can use for something else? I was planning on using some of the Parallax Backgrounds, am I able or are they Originaly made? Just curious.

All of the parallax backgrounds are original, so those are definately a no-no. They were created by Lun in a 3D modelling program called Bryce. And from personal experiance, I can tell you they are pretty darn tough to make right. The custom sprites and music are usually listed at the beginning of the episode, and of course, all of the menu graphics and most of the pictures are original.

Hm ... how about the picture of the trees in Episode 2?

"Forestforeground." Are those from FF6?

And also the glowy picture?

If you're stealing stuff from FF6, BoF2 amd etc. like The Way is anyway, you might as well steal whatever else you want as well.

I'd email Lun asking permission to use the original backgrounds, with the knowledge that they were created specifically for The Way sries, so most people will probably recognise them. And I'm pretty sure Lun complied the other chipset rips, so it would be nice to credit him to be polite :)

I thought I had read somewhere that he did it in Blender. I've got Blender, and I know you can do panoramas and such - I've made a few myself. I've never heard of Bryce though.
Thinks he knows more about the Plunge than you.

They're made in Bryce. I could probably accurately reproduce some of the simpler maps, but I know it's bryce because it has the same textures, style of landscape generation, sky creation stuff, etc. But I digress, Lun is a god among men when it comes to bryce. For example, that first pan with the overview of the blood lyn super-mountain-fortress is absolutely astounding. I believe Lun told me it took almost a full day of work to create.

I'm surprised he could do it that quickly, I would guess a few days atleast, if not a week.

According to Amazon, Bryce 4 is $100. There's also Bryce 5, which is currently unavaliable, or the latest version, Bryce 5.5, which goes for around $98.

To my knowledge, Lun used Bryce 4. My experience is all with Bryce 5. But I suppose the latest version would probably be the best.

Though there are ways to get these programs that make cost... shall we say... irellevant.

Ok, thanks. You said, Bryce 4 and 5, how good are the others (1-3), are they even worth looking at?

I would assume they wouldn't be as good. Newer version usually means more, better features.
