Plunge Online

I was thinking it'd be pretty neat to be able to plunge other people over the Internet. A few quick topic searches tells me that there's been a few attempts at something like it before (Crestfallen Online? SpaceBoy was doing something?). Any active projects working on this? I might have a stab at it myself if not.

People have tried. Even I tried to do it, but then I saw the only way to do it is to make your own game from a language and not a engine. So now I am learning language an shit and will pick it up again next winter/spring.

But then again knock yourself out.

The concept of an online plunge always interests me. If only to see what other people chose as their theme song for their plunge :D

(Dream Theater's Space dye vest for me. Something I found approrpiate)

While I have always thought that an online Plunge game would be an interesting past time, I do not honestly believe that anyone will ever do anything other than TALK about it.

I suggested to Jera that we make a new forum rule, You cannot create a topic about an Online Plunge until you've already made the game.

He's easily capable of doing this. Cedus is the most competent coder I know, and this isn't the first forray into online stuff he's done ;-)

It doesn't change the fact that I don't really care much, he can still knock himself out.

Besides, untill he's made the plungegame I wont beleive you.

Here, have some evidence.

here

There's no functioning gameplay yet, can just cross/lunge/drop each other. The fun numbercrunchy type stuff will come after I've waded through the RM2K code and figured out exactly how the Plunge calculations work. (Graphics/sound will come after the numbercrunching). Of course, if someone's already got a doc explaining how the Plunge calculations work and wants to give it me, I won't complain :) So far I've been reading the WGB, but it omits some stuff about the order of things (such as when blade art effects are applied).

So, nothing too exciting yet, just some proof that I'm working on it. Have a nice day :)

Tested, works. For those confused, you directly type your opponent's IP in when you're on the Join IP one, then hit enter (I kept trying to hit enter, with no luck ;-P)

Obviously if you have firewall issues you might have trouble getting it to work. I can join, but I have issues hosting-- just like with anything else I play online :-/

This would be ...what, at least the 50th online plunge proposal?

Eventually SOMEBODY had to actually make one....I guess..
