Would you want another big, open-ended stretch (like Marna)?

For those who don't remember, Marna was the big stretch in Episode 2 in which you could run around finding all sorts of stuff and doing side-quest/mini-game thingies. It was also where you first met Velicia.

I really liked it, because it was the first place that really gave me the feeling of being a real wanderer on the way, and what it would be like. You actually got the chance to get lost and really wander (omg wander teh way lol), meet normal everyday wanderers, and just generally got the impression that the Way is a real, actual world. The music added to the atmosphere, too.

This isn't a petition, although it would be nice if Lun noticed, in case other people agree with me. :P

Edit: Ah, just realised, the STAB option is gonna mess up the results of the poll. Can Jera or Porter get rid of it? >_>

Well, it would be nice to have something like the Marna Stretch. I thought Estrana was kind of like Marna Stretch in the sense that it's huge, but then again, you couldn't really wander around that place. Perhaps we should have a few less...linear maps where we just wander around.

i thought the marna stretch was awesome. but that's really when the story was going somewhere slow. Now the story is rapidly going along and I don't know if he could fit another stretch in there and still satisfy the pace of the storyline. it'd really have to be good.

Yeah, it could be done just after a big plot twist (that slows the story).
But it would be nice.

I like something open-ended and non-linear occasionally, although too much would disrupt the story.

Estrana didn't have completely free exploration. There was that bit at the end of E4, but even that wasn't quite right. Maybe if we'd been able to go all over the place, enter buidlings (like that place Rhue and Lexus were going to go), and talk to people, it would've been good. You don't get the same effect running around in a rainstorm.

The entry to Estrana was pretty overwhelming, though... It just kept going and going...

I think it would be exciting to be on my own again for a time, just like in that part to explore and find things, people that does not change the storyline, just adds more fun and challenge

In most console RPGs, I find myself wishing that there should be more areas like the Marna stretch. I mean, what's keeping the hero from actually wandering around interesting areas?

People often complain about having to go through dungeons or buildings or whatever that they think are too long. Sometimes these things do get tedious, but I like to see large encounter areas, because a lot of those areas really would be vast. One idea I've long had was to have a game that takes place entirely within one city--a real, city-sized city. Estrana might seem large by comparison to what we've seen in other games, but it doesn't even approach a real city in size.

So I'd like to see lots more stretches like Marna.

Ew, who voted against popular opinion?

Anything like Marna would be horrible with random encounters, though, so thank Lun for that.

That's the only place I can think of on The Way where the monsters regenerate themselves. It makes sense through, especially as they're all flying bugs, that they could migrate onto the map from areas you can't get to.

i agree with DSOK, but if you start on episode 5 where you meet up with Cetsa then go get Dirk and Kloe and go back to the house where Cetsa and Rhue were, the enemies will have respawned. The enemies outside will spawn also if you just wait long enough
Fading into the night,
The scourge of fear, the blight.
Upon this land beneath the sky.
Echoes of the past decry.

The words to a lonely song.

It wouldn't be bad if monsters had a place where they could regenerate, so we could get better in fighting... improve a bit.

I really don't want another marna stretch cause it's

I'd like a not-so-big-but-more-detailed stretch or city.
