Who gave Rhue his sword? (I think it's...)

This is a topic to try to figure out who gave rhue his sword. He recieved it after the landorin massacre, when he started searching for serena.
I think that the two people who gave Rhue his sword were... Well, I think that one of them was rhue himself. Think about it. At the end of episode 5, rhue and gaius are at the landorin stretch. I think that (if the theory about the way repeating itself is correct) rhue and someone else (possibly serena, if rhue finds her) gave rhue his sword.
This may sound like a completely stupid theory...

Post  !

Rhue got his sword from a secret cult of The Way ninja.

Oh shit wait. You can't see the The Way secrets forum where Lun has posted the plot to the entire series.

I think it was from the original Phantom Slasher (There are multiple throughout the age) and either Kalmar, Eyashu or Tetzel. Probably Kalmar.

I think the way is a continuos loop, atleast for Rhue, and he already had the sword at the time he meet Serena. (If there really was a serena, that is). The reciving of the sword represents the reawkening of the phantom slasher part of Rhue. (If you have no idea what im talking about, think Smeagul/Gollum.) The whole thing about being children and all that is a figment of his confused mind. We don't really know his age, do we?

Strata describes him as about twenty, I think.

The question of where Rhue got his sword is perhaps the most enigmatic in the game. Nobody here has presented any sort of compelling theory that explains this incident in a natural way. (The cyclicity theories come the closest, but they lack any feeling of inevitability and still leave a lot of questions unanswered.)

I actually thought the introduction of this mystery in Episode 2 (where most of the relevent clues are laid out) seemed like one of the weakest parts of the game. The discussion of Rhue's sword seems to arise almost at random. In retrospect, one must conclude that Traziun noticed something special about Rhue's sword very early on. However, the only forshadowing of this--Traziun's revelation of the weapon's second aura--is too caught up with RPG mechanics to be particularly effective as a narrative device.

I really would doubt Kalmar had anything to do with giving the sword to Rhue, he seemed surprised when he saw Rhue jump up from the pit. If he played a hand in passing the sword to Rhue, he would probably expect him to be able to accomplish such things.

Well, one of them could have been Dirk himself...

maybe thats a clue that he has something to do with it
he does do alot for rhue (pay money for him, agree to his decisions even if he doesn't agree) for no reason i can see

Maybe he's just lonely.

Rhue's parents perhaps?
Or maybe... maybe the sword is actually... made out of Rhue's pure will?
After all.. the phantom slasher is somehow connected to him. His sword and the phantom slasher's sword...

Bah, this all leads to the phantom slasher again, something I won't discuss 'till we see the next episode... :)

I think the key word here is balance. I'll explain some other time.

It wasn't Rhue's parents, since he says that since the Landorin Massacre, he began to wander the Way, without looking back. Besides, he says he doesn't remember who gave him the sword, he just counted two guys. So, if they were his parents, he would remember, huh?
BESIDES, Traziun asks him if his father gave the sword as a parting gift, and Rhue says no.

How do we know that Rhue even told Traziun the truth?
Remember his telling of Serena to Lexus? You could change Serena's character and the events completely? And earlier in the game Rhue's asked what color her hair is. Assuming that Serena isn't a figment of his imagination then why does Lun give so much freedom in the telling of his story to others? Could it possibly be that we don't know what happened at all? Even the progression of the blade arts (there are five strides and the only way i've been able to get all of them is by creating a god mode patch. There are a lot more skills for Rhue to learn..and I'd guess the game isn't half told yet.

Rhue's subsequent behvaior strongly indicates that he believes exactly what he told Traziun. (On the other hand, there is very little possibility that what he said was actually true, at least in its entirety.)

The most obvious explanation is that Serena, as Rhue describes her, is essentially nothing more than a figment of blue boy's imagination. There are almost certainly some germs of her character in Rhue's real past, but, in this view, Serena as Rhue thinks of her simply does not exist.

Obviously, this theory is incomplete, since we don't know how Rhue's memory became so boggled. However, it is the best theory thus far known. Nobody here has presented any other reasonable case to explain why you can make up Serena's appearance and character.

Yes. Duh.

I couldn't agree with you more, except to add that at this point it's relatively safe to venture that "Rhue" as we know him doesn't have a past any older than just before the beginning of E1, and that "Serena" is a composite creation from the memories of many different people integrated into "Rhue"'s essence through Aura absorption. Just as Rhue's childhood memories are.
