Nay. After all, what's the harm? Although I grant, this should be in Estrana.

As the original question, there are basically two ways to think about it. Either Lun invented the whole plot and cosmology out of his own mind, merely relying on thematic influences from elsewhere; or he look a large chunk of the world's structure and dynamics from another source. The first seems significantly more likely, but it's really impossible to say. Moreover, if it were revealed that he stole the idea from a specific source, just knowing that source would probably give away a lot, since we do not, at this point, know what the basic structure of The Way's world is.

N.B. My use of "stole" is not in any way to be taken as perjorative. As the saying goes, "Bad writers borrow; good writers steal."

Wrong forum, but I'll answer this anyway.

Lun related to me once that the bare basic concept for The Way came from playing with G.I. Joe figures as a kid. These figures (not actually playing as G.I. Joes), would apparently having continuing adventures down some pathway that never ended. There was always something new further along this path; new adventures, characters, etc. Of course, back then, it didn't have a name. How Lun got the ideas for the characters and mechanics for the current Way we know, I guess can only be credited to an incredibly creative and brilliant mind.

GI JOE figures are cool(used to be at least)... and thinking about the stories I invented as a kid... i might actually re-use some elements from things that pop into my mind being memories of back then... ISN'T THERE ANYTHING LUN CAN'T DO? :D

I was there when Lun told that story... But I wish he'd explained how the hell anyone human could get an idea for a plot as complex as The Way's.

So, Lun basically is continuing a childhood game he used to play.

In whatever genre you choose to work, it's not coming up with the skeleton of a plot that's the really the difficult part. It's fleshing them out and making them work that's the hardest.

There have been more complex plots then The Way's.

Yeah, but those are ones that are TOO complex (FFX anyone?), and generally suck ass.

Xenogears has an amazing in depth plot. The Way is far more like a FF game than Xenogears or Suikoden. Suikoden has an amazing plot too. Game after game more and more of it unfolds. Eventually the entire history of that world is going to be laid out at the feet of the players.

You just compared the Way to Final Fantasy.

The plot is like it. Lots of twists and stuff. Just not ridiculous Time Compression type twists.

I thought the plot of Final Fantasy X was much more straightforward than that of VIII or IX. What did you think was complicated about it?

I think it was more of the fact that he was so confounded by how bad it was and how none of it made sense that his brain forced it into the "complex plot" folder in his mental filing cabinet.
