actually, "eh" is just the short e sound. do you g "eh" t (get) it?

The first time I heard it was in a movie Office Space, and I didn't think anyone actually said it. :D

That grunt is indeed spelled the same way--"eh."

However, the classic Canadian interjection is also spelled "eh."

aha! hell if i know where i heard it. maybe it was office space. funny movie. it sounds cool though

People really do say it, in some circles. It's much more common in movies though. It makes a really pathetic appearance in Demolition Man.
