That is a reasonable explanation of how people got to Dream Estrana.

This is not:

It is VERY easily possible that The City is filled with people Rhue killed, and it makes more sense than whatever stupid theory you might come up with.

Dream Estrana is full of people who died during the destruction of the real Estrana. They were not killed by Rhue. If you had to attribute their deaths to a human killer, it would be Sacrifa. The people's appearance in Dream Estrana fits perfectly with Berserker's theory, but not yours.

Now that I think about it, is it ever explained what happens to a persons aura when they die?

Interesting question... Jopaga explains some things related to that (Formula #43 temporarily loosens the ties that bond Body and Soul together; one's aura is a semi-permanent impression on reality that has a great influence on a wanderer's view of reality; after absorption, the soul doesn't cast a new aura; etc.) and, based on that, we can get some inkling of the answer, but we can't know for sure, yet. At first, I thought that #43 temporarily removes the bonds between body and soul, which made me wonder why Jopaga bothered, since, in the eyes of most religions, you would get the same effect by killing someone. But, since it just loosens the bonds (which I guess lets the body and soul hold it somewhat in place), that probably means that breaking the bonds entirely (via death) would cause the aura to be unabsorbable, so the aura would either fade away or instantly go somewhere else (The City, possibly, though I'm more inclined to think that it just fades).

Jed didn't die in the destruction of Estrana.

I doubt Midian did, either. Even if it were possible, we're assuming there's some connection between all the people there.

His aura could have been absorbed by Rhue when he killed him.

hey guys, what's wrong with your memory? jopaga said, that any person can grow new aura!
as for inhabitans of d.estrana, those are peoples, killed by PS. remember, there are no children there (Traziun said, that PS don't kill children).

Isn't it convinient that when I prove DSOK wrong he mysteriously ignores me?

Nobody's opinion is a fact. That's right, DSOK, not even yours. I know that's a lot to take in, and you may not understand it at first, but someone had to tell you eventually.

Dream Estrana is NOT JUST people who died in Estrana. Like I said, Jed, and almost definitely Midian. And why would Rhue be there if you were right?

Exactly, Impossible.

That is not possible.

Why not? When you state something like that, you should be able to back it up. Swords can stick around for a while. Can you elaborate on your flat out rejection of a fairly good theory?

When it happens, I'll let you know how convenient I find it.

I challenge you to find a statement by me that claims that everyone in Dream Estrana died during the destruction of the real city. What I said was, "Dream Estrana is full of people who died during the destruction of the real Estrana." I didn't say these were the only people present. In fact, I had already said this: "Are the people there dead? Yes, almost certainly they all are. Did Rhue kill some of them? Yes. All of them? NO!"

You, however, said that the only people present could be those killed by Rhue. That, unlike anything I've stated, was demonstrably wrong. Berserker, on the other hand, has usefully proposed an interesting theory about how those souls might end up in Dream Estrana: "Rhue doesn't need to kill someone to absorb his aura (see Cade in ep4) so he could just have picked up some auras while he was wandering in Destroyed Estrana."

What's wrong with my memory? I might ask you the same question. Here are Jopaga's exact words: "All of the current evidence goes against a person's soul "casting" another aura."

remember, there are no children there (d.estrana) (Traziun said, that PS don't kill children).

I'm going to have to refer to the response I gave to the 'I don't see Lexus in Dream Estrana, so she must be alive!' theory. http://www.crestfallen.us/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=21582&highlight=lexus+alive#21582

And now to throw out a theory on Dream Estrana that I haven't heard mentioned, after some facts. I highly doubt that it will stop the argument between Impossible and DSOK, but...

It's clear that at least some of the people Rhue has killed have wound up there (even if, for whatever reason, you don't believe Rhue killed Midian, Jed is proof enough. The same goes for those who don't take Lexus's presence in the map of The City seriously. Also, I say some because there isn't any concrete evidence that everybody Rhue has ever killed goes there (I would expect to see a lot more Shadow Lords and Blood Lyn if that were the case)). However, it seems unlikely that absolutely everyone there was killed by Rhue: most of The City's population seems to consist of Estrana residents; in fact, it really looks like almost all of Estrana's population has wound up there (again, just my thoughts. We have no real way of knowing how many people were living in Estrana or of how many people are now living in The City). One of the only really logical explanation for their arrival in The City would be the manner in which, it's clear, a lot of Estrana's population perished: by the claws/fangs/what have you of the demons that were summoned by Sacrifa.

Now, if people that were killed indirectly by the Lord of the Pits wound up in a place that much resembled Estrana, one would have to ask why, since one would imagine that they would go to the Reaches, which, if Scatha is to be believed, definitely exist and are The Way's version of hell, in most people's beliefs. Perhaps the Lord of the Pits has created something of a foothold in Estrana's ruins and so the souls of the departed now wind up there. But how does this explain Jed's presence (possibly along with Midian's and Lexus's) in The City? Well, if you accept that Rhue's blade is a Shadow Sword, then one of the next logical steps is to link the Shadow Swords to the Lord of the Pits (Kloe speaks the common belief that the Shadow Swords are the embodiments of evil, and Kalmar does say that he sensed the 'evil' of Traziun's Night Reaper). Perhaps killing someone with a Shadow Sword is the same as a demon's killing of someone: an indirect murder by the Lord of the Pits.

I get the feeling that holes could be pretty easy to punch in this theory, but there is some link between wanderers killed by Rhue's blade and the wanderers killed in Estrana's destruction.

Although I guess it could be possible that The City is just a wierd little place, mostly borne of Rhue's memories, both those he normally has and those he gained, but can't consciously access (Jed's definitiely and Midian's almost definitely). That one probably has even more holes that could be punched in it, though.

This is a very interesting suggestion. I had been trying to find a commonality between the two types of people we know exist in Dream Estrana--those killed by Rhue and those lost during the city's downfall. However, I had not come up with anything that seemed reasonable. Your suggestion is quite intriguing though. In this vision of events, Rhue's shadow sword would be a metaphorical "claw" of the Lord of the Pits.

These are both excellent theories. While I actually prefer the first one, this second one seems more likely to be correct to me. If Dream Estrana doesn't actually exist at all, but is merely a product of Rhue's displaced consciousness, it makes sense that it might be populated by all sorts of people he has met (not necessarily all dead). However, the only ones that he can extract meaningful information from are those whom he has killed himself and whose minds/auras/whatever he has absorbed.

I think Dream Estrana is just a "mental visualization" of the auras Rhue killed, just like a dream (he goes there when he sleeps), but while rhue is there he can "talk" with the other auras.
