No, check that scene in Episode 4 after you save Kloe and she talks with Traz. He mentions the other guy is also in Estrana, and he asks if she loves him (the guy, not Traz  ).

Traziun: So the Blood Lyn are poised to make a move...
Kloe: ...
Traziun: I would imagine that you already know why.
Kloe: ...
Traziun: Yes. You've known who I am since almost the very beginning haven't you? Since Lide.
Kloe: It didn't take too long to figure it out. I knew I had seen you before. Afterall, you did save my life a long time ago. You're the one who pulled me out of the river and took me back to Delhara.
Traziun: I'd nearly forgotten that. I didn't realize that was you.
Kloe: Yes, it was me. But I guess you're better known because you're one of "the two". You rebelled. You ran away from the Blood Lyn.
Traziun: I didn't run away and I don't think the other person did either. I just decided that my time would be better spent elsewhere. If I had ran, I would have died. It's impossible to run from the Blood Lyn. You have to be smarter than that.
Kloe: Then things aren't looking too good for me!
Traziun: The "other one" is here in Estrana. But I'm sure you already knew that as well.
Kloe: Yes.
Traziun: You like him, don't you?
Kloe: ...Yes.
Traziun: I've only spent a little time around him, but he seems all right. There is certainly more to him than there first appears to be.
Kloe: I don't think he wants to be around me...
Traziun: Oh well. I doubt I can help you with that.
Kloe: *sigh*

It only mentions Traziun pulling her out of the river. She also says, "I don't think he wants to be around me..." and you constantly see Gaius running away from her in Episode 4. She says she likes him, too... It becomes pretty clear in Episode 5 that she really likes Gaius.

(It probably wasn't nessassary posted the whole thing up here... but it beats doing homework. :P )

Gaius is her Bloodbrother. Unless there is some huge plot device left untold so far.

I feel really suspicious of Gaius still though. I was suspicious when Rhue first met him in the Cave and his leg didn't really seem to be bothering him anymore after that one mention of it, though that's minor. I was suspicious of Gaius when he left during the story and then during the night the Phantom Slasher showed up. Not to mention, him being only a little bit ahead of Rhue and Traziun in ep.2 when they find the murdered wanderers and remark that the murderer is most likely not too far ahead.

Part of me also wonders why Gaius is being looked for by the headhunters too. They seem to be bounty-hunters or mercenaries pretty much so why would they be looking for him. Well, besides the whole being the second blood lyn to ever escape...But most likely the Blood Lyn would hunt him themselves, like they did Traziun and the unnamed previous escapees who never managed to stay alive.

My theory, going on what I've seen so far, is that Gaius could very likely be the Phantom Slasher. He has the same bodytype, as does Rhue. He always seems to be around Rhue at times. His comments, like his comments in Lide make him suspicious. The Phantom Slasher according to Sacrifa in one scene is under the control of the Guided, and Gaius is seen working with them. He also seems to be very good with his sword and possibly even has a Slasher sword aura when you first meet him(going by his sword slash animation) and disappears again and again.

When Traziun was talking with his Father Kalmar, there was some dialogue about him trying to make him the perfect weapon. Gaius is the second attempt at Kalmar's perfect weapon since he's the second lyn to leave the Blood lyn and live. I suspect that the Phantom Slasher is Kalmar's command to Gaius to kill those who are deemed evil. Which explains why PS doesn't kill kids and the settler/bandit along Marna Strech says there was something in common between the guys he knew. They were most likely murderers or evil men. The only flaw to this theory is that the Phantom Slasher killed those settlers at the beginning of Episode 1.

Anyways, the Phantom Slasher is either Rhue, Gaius or someone we haven't even seen yet.

Agreed.

I think he was testing Rhue... and maybe Traziun, too... He seems to have some sort of strange position of authority... "I'm sorry, but I've had to reconsider your existence on the Way. I'm afraid that you can't be allowed to continue in your current state."

Erwand wrote:I was suspicious of Gaius when he left during the story and then during the night the Phantom Slasher showed up.

I think Gaius didn't want to stay in Lide because he sensed Kloe was there. It would appear that he can sense auras...

Gaius: Trust me Rhue. I want to help you. Just look at what you did to Lyrra with that awful thing!
Rhue: I was defending myself! How do you even know about that?!
Gaius: I sensed it... I knew it had to be you.

I don't think the Phantom Slasher ever showed up in Lide, did he? That was Scatha that was on the wall...

Erwand wrote:Not to mention, him being only a little bit ahead of Rhue and Traziun in ep.2 when they find the murdered wanderers and remark that the murderer is most likely not too far ahead.

That seems to be popular evidence that Gaius is the Phantom Slasher... But I'm not so sure... I think that the Phantom Slasher is Rhue... he just doesn't know it... During the night I think he came out and killed those men... Perhaps Gaius was observing the dead the bodies, and then he wanted to give them a proper burial... But when he sensed the Phantom Slasher's aura he made a break for it, but he was fleeing so fast that he accidently broke the bridge.

Erwand wrote:My theory, going on what I've seen so far, is that Gaius could very likely be the Phantom Slasher. He has the same bodytype, as does Rhue.

I think it's Rhue... But both of their bodies are very similar...

Erwand wrote:His comments, like his comments in Lide make him suspicious.

Yup... Some weird stuff... But when he mentions that man they killed we have no idea what's going on. It may have been a very cruel and villianous murder, or perhaps a very noble defense against an evil man.

Erwand wrote:The Phantom Slasher according to Sacrifa in one scene is under the control of the Guided, and Gaius is seen working with them.

Indeed it seems that Gaius is working with the Guided... But I wouldn't trust anything Sacrifa says... "The stories about it are greatly exaggerated." Not true... As the "omniscient" players, we know that the Phantom Slasher is no legend... People that worship the Lord Below, usually can't be trusted... Which applies to real life as well. :P

Erwand wrote:When Traziun was talking with his Father Kalmar, there was some dialogue about him trying to make him the perfect weapon. Gaius is the second attempt at Kalmar's perfect weapon since he's the second lyn to leave the Blood lyn and live.

Which would explain why the Blood Lyn are always after Traziun and Kloe... but never Gaius.

The Phantom Slasher's murders seem pretty senseless.

I know I've said this a billion times on these forums... but I think Rhue's the Phantom Slasher... As for Gaius... That's still a total mystery... Basically, to sum up Gaius:

Rhue: You're one weird guy...
Gaius: If you mean that I'm not quite like most wanderers, then you're absolutely correct.

Actually, I was talking about during episode 1 when Rhue is telling the story with Lyrra's help. As to PS showing up in Lide, he/she/it did, but only briefly on the night of Ballar's death in Rhue's room which is what causes Rhue to wake up and run outside. yes, Gaius is a senser most likely.

Erwand wrote:Not to mention, him being only a little bit ahead of Rhue and Traziun in ep.2 when they find the murdered wanderers and remark that the murderer is most likely not too far ahead.

Maybe, but that doesn't really work since Rhue and Traziun had just left Jed, Lyrra and Rosmar's party behind after Rhue's plunge accident. It appears that they'd just left and started talking about what happened earlier when they have a dialogue at the beginning of the map. Not that it happened a couple days ago. So Rhue wouldn't have been able to kill them since Traziun was with him the whole time and they didn't sleep. As to Gaius fleeing so fast he accidentally broke the bridge...not likely, either he broke the bridge or someone set it up. Maybe the real PS? I get the impression those bridges are sturdy and not likely to break by someone running across it quickly.

Well...except for those wanderers at first the idea that the phantom slasher is going around as some sort of purifier of the way seems to make sense considering who we've seen killed. Like Sacrifa, the Arastotzi, the lady hitting on Rhue in Estrana. If the PS was killing the guilty then it makes sense he'd leave innocent children alone.

Oh... Whoops. By the story I thought you meant the plot, and I immediatly assumed you meant when he left in Lide.

I think that the Phantom Slasher seperates from Rhue at certain times... Especially when he's sleeping... So the Phantom Slasher could have gone ahead and killed those three...

Perhaps... But since when is hitting on someone a crime? If the Phantom Slasher is Rhue, though, then Rhue might be mad at her for hitting on him, and that's why he killed her.

Well I think the scene with her hitting on him was implying she was a slut, notice her clothes and Lexus' reaction, which would give a self-righteous Phantom Slasher reason to kill her since, if it's Gaius, he can sense auras, which apparently means he can sense the past as in Kloe's case...So possibly he saw those wanderers he murdered in episode 1's misdeeds as well. Also, as messed up as Rhue is I don't really see why Rhue would be mad for her hitting on him. :P

Maybe because he wants to stay faithful to Serena or something... But if it is Gaius I guess he's not killing Kloe because he still cares for her...

The adults did bash the idea of the Purpose...
Don't lower yourself to petty insults that make no sense. That only leads to a weak Communist system which soon crumbles into a Dictatorship.

That makes sense...
until now the PS killed only people who didn't believe in Purpose, it seems.

Oh my God, I just realised something. At the beginning of Episode 2, Rhue and Traziun travel with Lyrra's fist for a while, possibly even days. Which means when Rhue saw the Phantom Slasher at the beginning of E1, it was not directly before or after those guys you see later were killed. It's still possible that the PS could have gone ahead on the last night they were with Lyrra, but it somehow seems hard to believe.

But it also seems hard to believe that Lun would end an episode with a huge lie.

:?

I have no idea if it's Rhue or Gaius...

a few thoughts

Postby arukian_knight » Mon Apr 12, 2004 6:48 pm

I don't know if anyone else brought this up, but what about the forms Rhue's sword can take? One of them is "Illuminati." This alone makes me think Rhue's sword is not a shadow sword. If it's one of the Illuminati swords (a sword of light) then he can't kill innocents. So...did Lyrra kill anyone when she left the Blood Lynn to chase after Strata? Was anyone Rhue has killed innocent? Also, why couldn't he kill the harbringer? What is it about the harbringer and Rhue's sword? Maybe it is a shadow sword after all. I'm just throwing out some thoughts.
Another thing, what is all this about the Paraphalyn? (Did I spell that right?) Alan keeps claiming he's going to be the next one, a claim which no one takes seriously. If I remember correctly, there can only be one such person on the Way at a time. How is this person chosen? What are the qualifications(I think these were given in episode 2)? Could it be Rhue...maybe Gaius? Someone we haven't met yet?
Just some thoughts. What do you guys think?
I'm not lazy... I'm just happy doing nothing.
