I read the Superman death comics when my brother got them, but I never bothered to follow the return. The story, as I recall my sibling summarizing it to me, was something like this:

For a while, there were three fake supermen--a clone, a robot, and something I don't rememeber. (I think this was one for each major Superman magazine being published at the time.) Anyway, they comics chronicle their adventures for a while, then they gradually shift back to the Man of Steel himself, who is in the underworld. Apparently, he's just such a badass that he fights and smashes his way out of Hades and returns to the world of the living.

The fake Supermen were the clone that could zap shit - he became Superboy - the dude in a tin suit (not a robot), and Bizarro.
