The entire cast?!?! nah, Dirk can't die. BINGO! the last boss is dippy, getting revenge on Rhue for calling him dippy! yeah, i am the man of theories, yeah!

*slaps self*
thats better

i seriously doubt that, even if the way has a last boss, it will be Strata. more likely...well, i don't know. Who is the greatest enemy of Rhue? maybe, we find out who the phantom slasher is and Rhue kills him. then it turns out the Ps was being 'used' or controlled by someone, and we that person is the final boss. like Arius and Argosax from Devil May Cry 2. Arius is the supposed main/final bad guy but it turns out his master is argosax, a bigger 'guy'. maybe this will happen. We defeat the PS after finding out who he is. then Rhue finds something on or near the PS that makes him think there is someone bigger behind the plot.

wow, the most theorising i have ever done i think.

Yeah, I think just to make up for such a massive theory, you shouldn't post for a while.

I think the final boss is Rhue's own sword, Aubuta.

That does seem like an interesting possibility. However, that would probably only be possible if the final battle were a plunge. (At least that's what seems sensible to me, especially in light of recent suggestions that the shadow figures Rhue plunges are the spirits of swords.) A regular battle would be much more flexible, because more characters and options would be available. That is, unless Lun decides to design a super kick-ass customized plunge for the final conflict, with different interactions or abilities involved. (There is another problem with a final plunge, however, which is that while you can often make your way through the regular boss battles with less than ideal stats, without a high plunge, you don't stand much of any chance in any of the harder one-on-one faceoffs.)

Why does there need to be a final boss? Are you insisting that The Way ends? WHAT!?!?!? NOOOO!!!!!!!

Well everything that has a beginning has an end.....except for taoism, the legend of zelda and any other cycle I didn't mention.

There has to be some dramatic event at the end, and there ought to be plenty of combat as the finale approaches, but it does seem possible that Lun could pull some completely different, non-combat-based final encounter out of his hat. We'll just have to see.

I think as further Rhue slips down his path of wrong-doing that he realizes that his sword is reacting more and more to events as he nears Serena. Meanwhile his friends think Rhue's gone nuts and try to get him to stop, possibly fighting him.

Then at the climax, the sword goes loco, kills one of Rhue's closest friends to protect itself, Rhue sees this, and casts Aubuta off.

The result is something like the Shadow Man, except embodying all the strength and will of the people Rhue's killed. Rhue takes a normal sword (To personify the will of a person himself, and not of some magical, intelligent sword) and Plunges Aubuta. Aubuta loses control and begins to call up souls from the Lower Way and becomes...very...very powerful.

Then Rhue and his friends join together, Rhue learns to love, and they destroy Aubuta together in a final boss fight. The "abuta" song seems like the aftermath to that event, or the ending. The very beginning with the floating flute sound makes it seem like we'll be treated nicely to Aubuta shattering.

If the ending is that cliché, I will actually commit suicide. I am not kidding.

Let me rephrase that: I WILL FUCKING KILL MYSELF.

I'll help.

I really wouldn't be counting on that type of ending anway, it'd be more likely for Rhue to die. But it's better not to try to guess the ending, just wait for it.

Oh come on. The Way, while it breaks a lot of cliches, falls into a slew of them.

Okay, maybe discounting the whole friendship thing, just the Aubuta plunge?
