It's a hoagie. It was made in Philly, we named it a Hoagie. That's its real name. Southerners named it Sub and NYers named it Hero. Its real name is Hoagie. Get. It. Straight!

.....be ignorant Impossible. You always are. Sub is far more ridiculous sounding. I don't want to eat something with the same name as the dirtiest form of transportation in the world.

Don't even get me started on Hero. At least Hoagie is the original and correct name for the food. I mean, at least it got its name from something. Hog Island in Philadelphia, which was where it was invented by Italian immigrants who worked there during WW1 and brought the sandwiches with them to work for lunch. They were called Hoggies. It later became Hoagie and the rest of the country tried eating off of us like they are doing with the Cheesesteak. Get it straight Impossible, it's a Hoagie. You may call it whatever but know deep down that you're wrong.......like you usually are.

It definitely isn't a sub. I don't care what you call it as long as you know you're wrong. 8)

Dude. Trust me. It was made in Philadelphia. It could not have been around for a long time. Sandwiches like that were introduced by Italians. The first sandwich like that ever recorded was on Hog Island in Philadelphia. It spread through the entire country and different parts of the country renamed it from Hoagie to whatever else. Trust me on this War.

Here are the major lunchmeat type sandwiches:

Dagwood Sandwich: It is a multi-layered sandwich with a variety of fillings. Used to denote a sandwich put together so as to attain such a tremendous size and infinite variety of contents as to stun the imagination, sight, and stomach of all but the original maker.

Hoagie: Hoagies are built-to-order sandwiches filled with meat and cheese, as well as lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, topped off with a dash of oregano-vinegar dressing on an Italian roll. A true Italian Hoagie is made with Italian ham, prosciutto salami, and provolone cheese, along with all the works. It was declared the “Official Sandwich of Philadelphia” in 1992.

Po'Boy: The generic name for the standard New Orleans sandwich made with French bread. They are considered a New Orleans institution. Also called poor boy. Always made with French bread, po' boys can be filled with fried oysters, shrimp, fish, soft-shelled crabs, crawfish, roast beef and gravy, roast pork, meatballs, smoked sausage and more. They are served either "dressed" with a full range of condiments (usually mayonnaise, lettuce, and tomatoes) or "undressed" (plain). This sandwich is purely American in its variety of sauces and condiments. It is uniquely New Orleans because the oysters are local, as is the crisp and airy bread.

Submarine Sandwich: It is a king-sized sandwich on an Italian loaf of bread approximately 12 inches long an 3 inches wide, filled with boiled ham, hard salami, cheeses, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and sometimes flavored with garlic and oregano. It is thought that the original concept of these sandwiches came from the Italians who immigrated to New York in the late 1800s and brought with them their favorite Italian Sandwich recipes.

What you generally call a "Sub" is actually a Hoagie. The Submarine Sandwich and the Hoagie came around the same time. Subway is generally associated with the Submarine Sandwich but it usually comes off as a Hoagie. Therefore it's a Hoagie in my opinion. There yah go, this should clear it up. Notice it doesn't say Hero anywhere. I hate that name.

So it's a Hoagie. Settled. 8)

Oh well. Call it a sub. At least it's short for submarine which is another type of sandwich. Don't sound like a moron by calling it a Hoagie or anything. Just never ever call it a Hero. Please.
