Gaius is the primo candidate.

He can sense sin. He knows when people have comitted crimes (Kloe killing Ballard, Rhue killing Lyrra, probably some others not apparent to me now)

He also has the ability to carry it out. He's trained as a blood lyn. He may in fact be the Perfect Blade that Kalmar's ranting about.

He has the opportunity. He's rarely seen. He's always close to the killings and sightings. (Too many to name).

Means, Motive, Opportunity. Three key elements of the suspect being the criminal.

About the only reason to doubt that it's Gaius is that the threory is so freakin' obvious!

Ok, if Gaius is the PS, then we have to consider the events in Episode 1 considering the people Rhue stayed with that were killed and then at the end of the Episode when Rhue is asleep.

If Gaius is the PS, he's been on the same path as Rhue for some time now. When the PS striked the people in the tent in the start in Ep.1, this would mean that Gaius would be behind Rhue along The Way. However, the first time we meet Gaius, he is very much ahead of Rhue, injured by a beast, and has travelled in some depth in a cave. How did Gaus get from behind Rhue to ahead without seeing him go by?

Another account is that the PS, goes up to Rhue in the Ep.1 with his sword, but does not kill him as we find out in Ep.2. This happens again (if same PS) in Lide. If this is Gaius, he wants something from Rhue. He's waiting for Rhue to do something. Or maybe waiting for Rhue to return to his old self? (Referring to opening scene in Lide Ep.2)

Then could that mean that Rhue and Gaius had some sort of relationship if Gaius wanted him back so badly that he's willing to not kill Rhue despite all the murders he has committed. Then Gaius is not really your perfect justice is he?

However, I do agree with the theory Amgard pointed out that Gaius is possible candidate of being the PS in The Way.

Most likely Gaius got ahead of him at the settlement, Rhue stayed the night to get Dippy back, and Gaius just went on ahead.

When was it said that there is only one road in The Way? Gaius could've gone around Rhue.

I thought of that too, but since there is no actual proof that there are alternate roads, I didn't go in to that.

Rhue was also unconsious for awhile when Strata STABBED HIM IN THE FACE AND LEFT HIM TO DIE.

I don't think all of the Way is a big narrow path. How do you think Rhue meets up with Lyrra again after they part ways? They obviously go in a different direction. And we see paths or areas trail off other ways in some places, too. Even the very opening scene seems to show a very open area to explore. People can't be forced to all go through exactly the same stretches and settlements.

And we are definitely told of a different path to Estrana...

also there is lower way and maybe upper too.
in order to assess the reality of life, it is necessary at least once to die

I must admit, that part of my argument even I didn't feel was strong but was still something to say. You cant be half hearted about your theories and thoughts.

And yet some people barely even manage a half-hearted theory, because they make useless posts which have both been discussed before, but also don't even back up their theory or give any real points.
