Shadow Slasher?

Postby nerx » Fri Apr 15, 2005 3:42 am

I've heard the Phantom Slasher be mentioned as a "shadow", but never just simply as a shadow. Without the quotes. If you know what I mean. I noticed somebody had mentioned the PS didn't make much noise when he's doing his thing. Then I thought of Rhue and mirrors, and totally randomly, I thought of vampires.

Of course Rhue or the PS being vampiric would be incredibly cliché, and would never happen in Lun's story. Then I thought of vampires and blood. They suck blood because they no longer have it running through them right? So what if the PS wants a body. In this theory the PS somehow became Rhue's Shadow. I think he may have became Rhue's shadow during the Landorin massacre, and maybe the shadow was Midian? Getting back to the mirrors, mirrors reflect light obviously. Rhue doesn't seem to know why he hates mirrors. Apart from the fact that they 'lie' to him. Maybe they lie to him because it cannot show the true form of his shadow - Because a shadow is a space where there is no light, or at least less light. So the mirror can't refect which that isn't there.

Also, I thought of eclipses. Maybe under this theory the PS can only escape Rhue when no shadow would be cast, or at least nobody would notice. So at night, or at a place where little shadow would be cast. Like in the jail scene in a5. The jail is under the building, and has less light. Maybe this is why Rhue couldn't notice what the PS was - a shadow in what seemed to be a seemingly light setting to us. This would explain why Scatha and Dirk didn't notice anything odd either. Maybe they couldn't see Rhue was locked in, because it was so dark - but they could still see their hand in front of their face, so to speak. The PS probably doesn't want to be discovered, because if Rhue dies, so does he. Then I thought again, there had been other PSs according to that woman in Estrana, and Traziun seems to remember it too. So, I thought what if the PS could only escape it's current "owner" during a full eclipse?

Also, he can only switch bodies during a full eclipse, and maybe if he doesn't, he's dead. Or maybe stuck there until the next opportunity. [Another eclipse]
Back to the point, what if the current owner of the PS was chasing Rhue and Serena, or, maybe it was the current owner of the PS, who was accompanied fellow head hunters, Gaius and Midian. Gaius was having his doubts. - Was this kid really some sort of monster? [Under this theory the PS is tricking Gaius through the body of his friend] Or was his fellow head hunter going mad... As Midian took care of Serena, so as just to get her out of the way, not just kill her, Gaius noticed how dedicated the boy was to the girl. Being the guy he was, [damn Gaius is smart] He realised what he would have to do; he had to kill his friend. Midian, who was still standing on the cliff after just pushing Serena, has also been thinking this and just watched. Gaius then, taking all precautions turned on Midian and knocked him out, now only facing his target. The PS laughs. And talks - probably something he later noticed was a HUGE mistake. He tells Gaius of what he was planning to do. He merely laughs again; he knows Gaius is powerless to stop him. Rhue, [who I think was Jeruh like many people do, Lyrra's brother] slowly gets to his feet noticing one of the hunters down. He then looks at the scene - Gaius, challenging another head hunter who seemed to be laughing insanely. He quickly makes his decision. He challenges the PS. The PS merely laughs more.. This is of course because they are both at the most 13, they are just kids. [I think Gaius may be Tetzel’s son, or in some way recognised before he even joined the Blood Lyn. – Why would the Black Lyn choose Gaius, over his own son, who seems to kick too much ass [if possible] to be the blade of perfect justice? Yeah, Gaius has got to have something special about him. And he’s not some snobby important kid, he’s very bright for his age. And no, I don’t mean one year above the rest, I mean if he was older than Dirk, he would STILL be incredibly wise. And for this, he would have to know how to defend himself – people would want this knowledge, like some certain rebellious + zealous guided. Even though he seemed to be working for them, I think he just made it look like he was just another run-of-the-mill overzealous bastard.

[As for Lyrra, she was probably Jeruh's little sister, and not one years difference too - she refers to the other kids attacked by the beasts as Jeruh's friends, which suggests she is an outsider. Plus, of course, she is far more affected by the massacre than Rhue, and even Serena seemed to be – in fact when she was running for her very life, she seemed quite calm. I think that Rhue's group of friends had just reached the first stages of puberty so they are 12-13, or maybe some 14. Sorry for being all over the place, heh.]

Anyway, they both attack the PS, but Rhue would get most of the credit for that one. I mean did he kick butt or what! Or maybe the PS let him. Because it seemed to easy. Rhue, at least thought it was done. Then Gaius, thanking the Rhue for his help, and asking him what had happened here, they talked until Midian came round and got informed, because he made it pretty clear he wasn’t with the PS. Now, as Gaius hands Rhue Midian’s sword to keep him safe [I think the toy sword practically broke apart while he stabbed that wooden piece of art in to the PS] and wishes him luck finding his girlfriend. It is then when the PS takes over Rhue, who he had possessed just as the previous puppet died. He damaged his memory so when he would take over again, Rhue wouldn’t know. He practically changed Rhue’s mind to his will. He knew he had to lay low for at least 5 or so years, but that was nothing compared to how long he had lived. Then he finally releases Rhue, being tired of waiting, and slowly becomes active again, in the hopes of finding and destroying those who saw him that night.

But everything hasn’t worked the way he has planned. Rhue has learnt more and more.. and now Gaius has realised too, after 5 years of research of what the PS said that day. He now sees signs again. He knows the PS is back. Midian does too, so now he hunts for Jeruh, because he must kill him. It’s the only way. He’s probably so under mind control it’s too late anyway. Now Gaius wants to save Rhue, and he knows the sword is what the PS used to get in to Jeruh in the first place. So he must destroy it. He only hopes Rhue has enough sense to trust him…

[By the way from this theory Gaius has only JUST realised Rhue=Lyrra, because Rhue recognises the Landorin stretch..] Anyway I think this theory is good, but I see a few flaws, what about you guys?

^ What the hell? Rhue = Lyrra, I mean Jeruh.

I think I'm done theorising for now. lol.. e6.. can't wait. I think the shadow itself may actually be someone, like the lord of the pits..
This theory makes too many assumptions.

That theory is oddly specific. It does make sense though. The only thing that doesn't make sence is what Gaius has been up to with the Guided and everything.

Yeah, just making a big post doesn't be you can only follow a single train of thought and go in-depth with one possibility, that could get as bad as what you did before. >_> Especially since a lot of your leads tend to be somewhat far fetched.

It would still be interesting if the events on Landorin had gone that way, though. The aura theory generally seems to work better regarding Rhue's memory, and I doubt a kid and Gaius could defeat the PS like that. But it's an interesting sign of how little we know about what happened... What if the PS were responsible for the Landorin Massacre?
