Eyashu

Postby Nurazhi » Sat Apr 23, 2005 6:42 pm

Now I know that Eyashu is the guy that Tetzel killed, according to Dirk because he found out the secret of the End of the Way. And I know that Scatha and Dirk are now after him. But do we know who Eyashu is? I feel like I might just be missing something, like he's the head of the Vigilance Council or something. But I can't for the life of me think of another reference to Eyashu anywhere. Do we know who he is? If not, anyone have any guesses?

The only clue to Eyashu is is what you mentioned, although in episode 6 more will surely be revealed.

Scatha: You told me Forerunnersss were
a myth when we firssst met.
Dirk: They are a myth! But I'm
the closest thing to a Forerunner there
will ever be, heh! That is, since Eyashu
was killed...

We have that, too...

Nothing about forerunners was mentioned at all in the first two posts.

He was talking about that scene though, at least that's what I thought.

Yes, it was immediately afterwards Dirk and Scatha mentioned Eyashu being killed by Tetzel. I'm just saying the Forerunner part was worth mentioning for the sake of this discussion, too. -_-

Eyashu has a little more back story that can't be revealed... however, you should be paying attention to what is being said if you want clues for structual mystery.

Okay... Damn fwacho and his evil hinting.

I'm assuming that Forerunners are a myth in the context that the whole story about a bunch of people who build bridges and dig wells and make Way posts is total bullshit. But Eyashu must have been a Forerunner in that he went to the End of the Way, or close to it. That's why Tetzel killed him, so it all ties in.

But what is the "truth" about the End of the Way? Is it that there's no such thing, and that even the Rolling Mists don't exist? That's a simple explanation - if wanderers knew the truth then they would most likely decide to settle down for the rest of their life, or it might cause them to disbelieve the Purpose - both of which would be bad for the Guided, and so Tetzel had to kill Eyashu to stop people from finding out. Of course, there are other ways that the "truth" could hurt Tetzel...

If we assume Rhue and Gaius are currently at the End of the Way, is it related to Landorin? Was Gaius' "Interesting" comment referring to Rhue recognizing Landorin? He could have been thinking of what REALLY happened there, if that's what he mentioned in Lide. Rhue said that it was where he lost Serena, and that might have explained something to Gaius about what happened to Rhue, if he didn't know. Or did he say that for a different reason? The End of the Way could appear different to other people, although that seems less likely right now.

Whichever theory we want to go with, it would be a good idea to work out how Dirk is involved. He's the "closest thing to a forerunner" since Eyashu was killed. What does that mean? Does he know the truth as well, or perhaps only part of it? Then why is he chasing Tetzel? How is Scatha involved at all (since she's also goning after Tetzel)? I think it might answer some questions if we knew where she fit in.
Dirk definitely has been around a lot (and apparently went back or something, since he'd already been to Laodicea), so it's not really too farfetched to believe he's been as far as Eyashu has - or he knew Eyashu, anyway. Tetzel isn't killing Dirk, though, so Tetzel might not know about him.

Which leads us back to Dirk's motives - wouldn't Eyashu want to kill him? It could be that Dirk wants to... avenge Eyashu's death? Or Dirk wants to find out exactly what Eyashu knew (which he might only know part of right now).

Did I ask enough questions for you, fwacho? Bastard. Hopefully some other people can work out parts of this and we might get some idea of what's happening...

If the End of the Way has something to do with Landorin other than just that The Way loops around, then it's possible that the Landorin Massacre had something to do with killing Eyashu. Maybe Tetzel was behind the whole thing?

And just for the record, Impossible: I had not remembered that what Dirk said about Eyashu being close to a Forerunner, so it was good that you posted that.

What if the Pharaphalyn and a/the Forerunner were one and the same? Maybe since Eyashu died, Dirk is now the strongest with Scatha recognizing him as the Pharaphalyn and that's why she follows. Maybe it's the Pharaphalyn's job to guide the rest of the wanderers?

EDIT: I just realized another similarity between the Forerunner(s) and Pharaphalyn. Both stories of the Pharaphalyn and Forerunner(s) tell about how it's been so long since anyone has seen either, that few believe them to even exist.
I'll say I found her floating face down and I won't let them hurt you, I swear, from the crystal to the crucifix, I will always be with you. So if I go to hell for this I guess I'll meet you there.

Well, basically Landorin was near were the end of the way used to be. So to keep people away they, most likely the guided, killed the kids that night. The PS was also used to keep people in settlements or the rumors at lest.

I just realized something-- the Guided doesn't want wanderers to settle down, and yet they're afraid of them reaching the end of the way? :?

I think its that the Guided in general don't want wanderers to settle, but Tetzel doesn't want people to reach the end, which you think would have happend more often concidering how many wanderers there must be.

That doesn't really make sense. I firstly don't think anybody has reached the End of the Way (or at least not before E5) besides some important people (Eyashu, maybe Dirk).

If the truth is that there's no reason to wander; of course Tetzel wouldn't want people to find out. Nobody even said for sure that Eyashu went to the "End of the Way", just that he knows the truth about it - which could be that there's no such thing, or something more.
