Of course, if your stats are high enough, you can get by without using any Risk or link attacks at all. Of course, then it's kind of boring... Also, other than some of the Plunges in episode 2, I have never gotten a Finisher before. And since the Wanderer's Guide Book details some fairly nice effects from some of the Finishers I have for my Lyn ranking, that irritates me a bit... I hope Lun adds a hard mode for the Way, later.

He's just a game character, so that justifies fucking up the spelling of his name when you make an entire signature image devoted to him?

And how hard is it to fix a typo?
How hard is it to have a friend delete 1 word and spell it right?

It's all about the Lyn rocks and Lanner.
Maybe if you know your true love is about to move away to college or something, you can stick this shit in the stereo and make the moment last while at the same time listening to pussies whine about bitch shit. Just like you.

I always get this "feeling" about which attack I should use... No pattern, just a hunch.

Sometimes it's wrong, sometimes it isn't. Oh wait, that's the pure definition of chance isn't it? Damn :)

And I have (in my original savegame) very limited stats. I also have only half the blade arts. I do have a savegame with every notch item/blade art, but I prefer playing the episodes with my original save.

So, whenever I get to a plunge I can't win (think Rosmar in Ep4), I use Risk Attacks the entire plunge. It's the only way to kill an opponent FAST (unless you have uberstats of course). So, if you can't take the damage and can't deal it fast enough you'll have to rely on the risk attacks or, before you know it, you'll have 0 plunge left because of all the injuries you've suffered.

Here are my stats as of the end of ep5:

159HP
17XL

Lyn Rank: Straphalyn

18 Plunge
26 Damage Threshold
6 Crit %
9 Crit Strength
18 Strides

41 Focus
37 Will
36 Poise

45% Cross Sweep Link
30% Lunge Cut Link
30% Drop Slash Link

As far as I know that's the absolute maximum you can get up to this point (you can have 19 plunge but you miss some other stuff which frankly isn't worth 1 plunge to miss). I got step 4 injuries on most of the near-end-game plunges, even when my opponent picked the "right" attack.

You only get Therin's Plunge +1 if you MISS A LYN ROCK in the first area of E2, as well as missing bonuses from a tournament Plunge in Lide. I am SO sick of explaining this.

Look at the event in RM2K - first it checks the switch to see if Rhue lost in Lide, which affects what Rhue says. Then it checks the switch for "E2 Chest #2", which is a Lyn rock near the beginning, and if you don't have it you get the bonus.

I have never gotten a finisher.

On topic, I had the same problem, and I found the answer: look EVERYWHERE for people to plunge with, read the blade art/notch item location thread, strategically decide which blade arts to use, be careful with risk attacks, and keep trying if you lose a plunge.
In my current game, I haven't lost one plunge.

You mean out of the plunges that are possible to win, right?

I won all the Plunges in Episode 1. 8)

If you beat Therin, he'll be all "WTF? How did a newbie beat me?". If you try to get guidance from him on the Marna Stretch, he'll just say, "Why the fuck do you want help from me? You already beat me and you couldn't have been any more of a newbie! You don't need help, I NEED HELP!" It's rather heartwrenching. Bitter from his defeat, he won't enter the Estrana tournament, but he watches from the audience and pees on all the fighters in the tournament out of spite. This enables you to defeat Strata in Episode 5; the piss blinds Strata and makes it so that he misses on every pass, but Therin isn't able to piss on Rhue because he's pissed out all the piss that he can piss. You can also beat the Headhunter; if you do, Slade won't arrive, and Rhue carries Wes and Dana to the soon-to-be-Three Trees settlement himself. The Headhunters in Estrana will have heard of his death by the time you arrive (God knows how... I'm guessing that Wes and Dana are secretly Headhunters themselves and decided to tip them off... yeah, that makes perfect sense), so you'll get into a normal battle with them whenever you speak to 'em. You can even, somehow, with a Plunge of 2, take off Traziun's 200 hit points in two passes. I've only managed it once, but what an achievement it was.

...I don't think it was ever officially going to be named Three Trees... It was just an idea. And the settlement actually has two trees...
