Exactly. A shocking event is not enough to make a character's personality change so drastically. Strata didn't care about Lyrra at all, but when Rhue kills her, he suddenly thinks she was what "really mattered"?Strata freaking manipulated Lyrra into following him. Lyrra fell into the trap, and indeed followed him. I mean, (I'm sorry, but I MUST put this down) I believe he BEDDED her that night we saw Kloe go into her Inn! (Please, feel free to be disturbed by this idea). And then once he saw Cetsa he just felt like he needed a new trophy so he dumped his old one.
