It's been a while since I played any of the Way games, but I was looking through the sprites of Ep. 1, and I noticed something. The actual Phantom Slasher's sprite... as in, the one labeled "Phantom Slasher" is a relatively spikey-haired guy. But in the game's maps, some of the shadowy character's sprites are labeled Phantom Slasher as well, yet they intermittently... intermitently... however you spell it, look like Gaius or Rhue... So... What's with that?

The spikey one is from the pits the one we see all the time is the one that looks like Rhue's set.

Ok, i've figured it out. It's Alex, the guy we meet in Episode two in the tavrn in Lide, who wants to "cleanse the way of all evil". There have been theories that anyone who was killed by the phantom slasher either commited a crime or was in a group with someone who commited a crime. Therefore, we can conclude that Alex (I named him because of his clothes, i don't think we ever get a name) is the phantom slasher's secret identity.

this has been pointed out several times before and i wouldn't read too deeply into it, Lun has always said that he laughs when people base theories on character sprites

Well, it wouldn't make too much sense if the PS was Rhue, but the character sprite looked nothing like him.

and also that he'd laugh about it to throw us off track

We will never know what happen in the next episode until we play it. I try not to think what will happen. If you know what happens then what's the fun of playing it?
