Or a mention to Rhue's sexuality. Personally, I don't want to decode the truth from a previous episode. I want to find out in ep6 / later - when it's laid out before you. Like the end of ep5, for example. Except, of course, that wasn't laid out at all. Gaius has so many reasons to lie..

All this about something I put in as an afterthought?

Think about the nature of these codes. Just numbers that represent letters right? They are something that is designed to both convey and conceal the truth. Can you think of anything else in “The Way” that both conveys and conceals the truth? How about Gaius. He’s a very ambiguous character.

Rhue is given the task of discerning what is true in a very gray world. It’s certainly not an enviable position and it is made all the harder by the presence of elements like codes, Gaius and his own flawed memory. The only way Rhue can sort through this is by consciously determining what is true and false based on what is demonstrably valid. <-(more on that later)

The codes do not possess much meaning beyond that, but Gaius is a profoundly important character. His bi-sexuality has great affect on Rhue’s development.

Just in cased you missed it I’ll say it plainly. Gaius, as a bi-sexual, is clouding Rhue’s self perception. At the end of the 5th episode he’s trying to get Rhue to believe that he could be the deviant “Phantom Slasher”.

Woah, Cocoa almost went through an entire theory without relating it to sex.

I know. If I didn’t read the name I would have thought it was Fwacho until I got to the part about Gaius being bi-sexual.

not clouding but squalling! :D
in order to assess the reality of life, it is necessary at least once to die

Who could it be?

Postby Cocoa » Mon Jul 18, 2005 12:44 pm

A couple of days ago I remember somebody posting a "Hi" topic on the scratch wall. I remember advising this person to read another persons past posts to avoid asking any questions that have already been answered in great detail. I mean, the other person had less than 40 posts, most of them pure distillations of brilliance. Really there wouldn't be an excuse not to read them, as this other person was obviously an important player in the development of "The Way". If only I could remember who these people were. Who could they have been?
