Soda is acceptable, pop is not. Soft drink is the real, aka European (presumably) and Australian, word.

There's different names for heaps of stuff.

like a Pickup Truck. We call 'em Utes.
Daipers, we call Nappies.
Jello, we call Jelly and Jelly we call Jam.
Soda, we call Softdrink.
SUVs, we call 4-wheel drives.
ATVs, we call Quad-Bikes.

and there are probably heaps of others but I couldn't be fucked thinking them all up.
oh yeah by the way. Doovy & Co. are not gone. After all... I am Doovy and Forunner is still here.

Nappies? Wow, that's the lamest thing I've ever heard.
I'm pretty sure Jello is a common acceptance of the wrong term, similar to everyone saying Band-Aids, when that was originally just a brand of bandages. Also, Jam is a more difficult form of Jelly when it comes to spreading it on the bread. We have Grape Jelly and Grape Jam from the same companies sometimes.
Softdrink...I want a hard drink. We in Minnesota call it Pop, but I actually edge away from the term, knowing that I like saying soda more, and knowing I'll get some "wtf"'s from friends by saying it. So I say, "Do you have anything to drink? Maybe some Mountain Dew?"
Quad Bikes....no comment.
4-wheel drives? That is found on almost every new car available right now. Are other cars called 2-wheel drives?

English is too messed up. There needs to be a universal English that everybody uses. We'll use Jello, Jelly, and Jam as three things, soda...if you want, and now that I think about it, I'm just picking out US English words. So there.

Both Nappies and Daipers sound whack.

Also, Cotton Candy, we call it Fairy Floss.
And those mcdonalds supersized meals were never available here, NEVER. :(

And yes I also agree that there should be a Universal English.
We shall call it UE, and it shall replace every form of English on the face of the earth. :D

Also I heard that the Americans hate the most delicious substance on earth....VEGEMITE.

Vegemite is the best. better than any other spread you can imagine. :D

We "Americans" don't hate Vegemite. That's like saying that all Australians hate credit cards. It makes no sense. I'd like to try it though, I've heard about it.

Fairy Floss? That seems like a fun way to say it. Cotton Candy works too. Someday I'm gonna go to a CC vender and ask for FF.

C'mon It's good. It's only made from used brewer's yeast, onions, celery, sea salt and some other nutritious crap.

They do sell it don't they it should look like this:
