This is where you are simply wrong. There are video formats that avoid such a wasteful storage methodology. Believe me or don't.

Indeed, such as DivX, which I refuse to use because it makes things look real ugly, especially the message boxes and darker areas. I suggest you read up on this: http://www.100fps.com/how_lossy_is_divx_100percent.htm

DSOK, trust me, it's normal size considering the quality and I have tried dozens of codecs before settling with this one.

I'm glad to hear it's working for most people. I'll try and collect a few links dealing with quicktime and avi files which I'll post in the release topic when it's done.

Thanks for all the feedback, I appreciate it :D

Well I cant say much about the video considering the length, but it seemed ok. You said you were setting up some bittorrent links for the downloads, is there any chance that I could download them not using bittorrent, I understand if not.[/img]

Wow, I didn't know DivX was bad... Have you tried one of the, like, better versions of it? >_> <_<

Currently, the one of the most efficient codecs in terms of size/quality is the H264 codec, but neither Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, or Quicktime support it. You need a codec library like ffdshow that can intigrate if you want to play it with the aforementioned three. Otherwise, you can download the eternally much more efficient, compatible, and powerful VLC Player. Or if you use Linux, there's a great player called "MPlayer" that's somewhat harder to find.

Um, QuickTime supports H264. It's made by Apple, do you think they wouldn't be up to date on this stuff? They update their OS and programs on a regular basis, and QuickTime has been able to use H264 for months.

Haha. Ironically, the last time I checked the quicktime website was about the day before they released the new version. Oh well. VLC is still immeasurably better.

Hmmm, I'm not really up to date on all those video formats... My basic goal was to avoid too many "My video won't run!! :( :( :( " posts, that's why I chose a more generic codec.

And I didn't notice DivX 6 was available, though I imagine not much will have changed.

Works just fine with Winamp.

I like the idea of a recorded version of The Way. Will all the turn-based battles will be included, removed entirely, or merely removed unless the fighting skills or plot need to be showcased?

I just love how, whenever the topic of video coding comes up somewhere, people have to one-up each other on how much they know about it.

That's actually a super-good observation. Oh well. The videos work in almost all media players, and the size is almost irrelevant if bittorent is being used. Consider it this way: Most standard-length anime episodes I've downloaded are in the 180-200Mb range. If one Episode of The Way is ~150 Mb, consider it a deal. :)

It will be somewhat more, but consider this... The cutscenes of episode 1 are around 30 minutes. It only goes up from there with Episode 4 having the max amount of cutscenes. An average anime ep is only 25 minutes.

Hmm, would it be possible to distribute two versions? One that needs external codecs, and one that is larger, but can be played "out-of-the-box"?

Oh, yes, I can watch it too.
