No, we just don't know if there are oceans because Lun hasn't told us. Not as if sea water is drinkable anyway...

Edit: Wow, you just made me think of something. What if the "Rolling Mists" are just the crashing waves of an ocean? O_o I wonder if I'm on to something. *waits for a cryptic comment from fwacho*

I guess we have seen some bodies of water, in the ends screens unless I'm mistaken, anyways, I like the idea of a patterns of stretches all across the globe, with different obstacles forcing wanderers into different paths.

We didn't see an ocean or seaports but Strata and Lyrra boarded a ship. Lun rendered many backgrounds showing rivers flowing through the countryside and there is a little lake or pond in the Marna Stretch and shortly after it, a big waterfall, so there is probably enough water on the Way. Moreover, ocean/beach settings could be more difficult to depict and to create by that program Lun uses for his backgrounds, because maybe the water would glaze without appearing in motion? But it could just as well be a phenomenon of the Way that it lacks oceans.

fwacho wrote:Well I think you all have expressed all possible main theories here. I counted 7. So one of them if probably right. which leaves the question... well If I told you the question then you'ld have the answer, so in deference to Douglas Adams, I'll just tell you the answer is "42" and let you figure out the question from there. Of course if you knew the question the answer woudl be obvious, but you don't, so it's not. funny much life is like that.
I hope I've confused you and set you all on the right track.

My interpretation of fwacho's comment is that in his opininon after the end of the final :( episode we still don't know the true shape of the Way which means that it won't ever be clarified which one of the theories is right. It could mean that Lun himself didn't think about questions like what happens if a wanderer heads for the collateral edges of the Way (if they exist) and such things. I mean, it would be no crime if Lun didn't develop every aspect of his "the Way universe". That would mean that everybody is free to choose his favoured idea in this case and in others, just like in many films or books which leave questions unanswered (e.g., Donnie Darko. Why did Donnie really choose to die? ).

But the knowledge about the shape of the Way would be of use to the guys who develop the world of this "The Way MMORPG" thing

our planet consists of 70 % water no? and all of that is connected somehow, invert it and you get a really neat view, where all land is connected, making it possible for a continous path.

exactly so maybe the rivers take you up to the upper way and lower way and they all meet at the end of way which is an ocean? Does that make any sense to anyone?

I personally figured that the way is kinda like just a continent on a globe. All connected and such. Were the planet big enough, 5 times the size of earth for example. People could walk for a lifetime and not see the same place twice. This would also make sense of how everything is neatly marked, because many generations could/would have passed through there and gotten the opportunity to mark things down. This could also explain the huge unbreakable structures, they could have been build in a fashion similiar to the pyramids (which I'd assume are damn hard to break, especially with middle-age technology). Convceivably, a bunch of people could have been banished there, and there are other civilizations elsewhere on their world, which due to their settling would have gotten the opportunity to advance technologically. Yea I'm kinda rambling but you get the jist of it.

Then again the way could just be an infinite plane like many of the in-game characters suggest and beleive. There's really no way to know.

I think Donnie died for whatever reason the other Living Receivers supposedly died - also killed by the artifact they returned to the Primary Universe (read this if you don't understand). But yeah, we don't know if he chose to die or what - it seems like he did, maybe that's what he was laughing about?

</Horrendously off-topic>

Er, anyway, I like my theory. It would explain why there don't seem to be any oceans on The Way...

Strata and Lyrra were on a boat of some sort when they travelled from Estrana to the Blana Sera temple... so there are bodies of water large enough to warrant boat travel. Though wheather it was a lake or a larger body of water is unknown.

What's weird is that they eventually have to ditch the boat when they finally decide to continue along the way, it seems like a waste of a settlers time to even bother building a boat if they intend to keep moving later on. It doesn't seem profitable at all, just kinda stupid is all. You'd think it'd be a smaller body of water though, because if they couldn't see the other side a lot of people would be all like "Hey man! It's the end of the freakin Way! Sweet ass!!" and just stop entirely because they couldn't see any reason to keep moving.

*off topic* As far as Donnie Darko goes, I think it's implied that the entire scenario is a tangent universe, and the "end of the world" represents the fact that it is impossible for the tangent universe to exist, therefore it collapses upon itself. Donnie is manipulated into making this happen. In other words, the only possible outcome of that situation is that Donnie dies.

Er, yeah, we know all that stuff. But that doesn't mean that Donnie couldn't have left his room at the end.

I guess that the boat means a quicker, possibly safer way from A to B, maybe the other way is filled with monsters and much loinger, maybe you ahve to travel through the pits?

Well, Rhue traveled the other way... somehow. He blacked out for alot of it, but apperantly its not the only way across.
