technolgy right now yes it would take 1000 years, but with better technolgy and genetic breeding of life forms that can make breathable air and cop with atomspher.

Make breathable air from what though? That's where the problem lies. Even with the best technology possible, these organisms would need CO2 and Water. We cant invent water... we'd have to take water from our own oceans.. probably reducing the sea level by many, many feet and destabalizing the atmosphere. The CO2, though, luckily enough, should be easy to obtain once we can separate JUST CO2 from the air.

There is simply not enough water at the polar caps.

But anaerobic life would be indeed very useful in removing the need to use oxygen tanks. But remember.. it took millions of years for the original anaerobic life forms to make enough O2 to breathe.

I read just fine, War. I'm still trying to figure out how you can "cop" with an "atmospher" and what exactly an atmospher is, but regardless, I understood what you said in whole. What I am saying is that even such life forms could not make all the oxygen we need in only a thousand years. It took the original anaerobic life forms that were abundant, many millions of years.

Which other gases could we use to convert into oxygen? Carbon dioxide? If so, adding it in only 100 years would make the heat probably through the rough, comparable to venus' atmosphere, simply due from the increase in friction levels. Not only that, but it'd be tremendously wasteful. We'd lose half of the atmosphere simply due to heat expansion. All bio-organisms would die in the heat that would exist if we only made the atmosphere within 100 years.

Also, remember, we dont just TURN CO2 into Oxygen. We need water to do that, and glucose. We' have to strip our planet of so many resources.

Dude, if we can clone a human being we can do all that shit. We will probably be able to clone a human within 10 years. There are many ways to get water on Mars.....and that is ignoring the fact that there might be a huge ice ocean beneath the surface. As for oxygen, we can create the atmosphere on our own. Genetically enginere plant life or something of the like to produce it. I'm not going to pretend that I know a lot about this subject, but humans are capable of almost anything.

Traforuming....? I don't think spelling errors get much worse.

Before you start belevien we can make an atmosphere on mars.

Mars is to small to contain an atmosphere.. venus, earth and bigger is just the right size...

The reason mars is barren is that it is to small and has a to weak gravitic force to contain the fleeting gases of an atmosphere.

If we were to move venus to mars's orbit we could populate it. :P

Mars is TO SMALL!
On the other han d one could quite easily build dome-like strucktures to inhabit mars. But an atmosphere is sadly impossible due to mars's small size..
If, against the odds, an atmosphere was generated any medium or large impact from space debris would rip the atmosphere away

Actually, telaphal, Mars is quite capable of having an atmosphere. Remember, Jupiter's moon titan is much smaller than mars and it has an atmosphere. The only problem with the logic I'm hearing from others is that it can be done in only 100 years. I'm not saying that it isnt possible to put alot of gas at once in 100 years.. what I'm saying is that it would be extraordinarily wasteful and useless to do so, because the temperature and pressure would skyrocket so high that extremophiles couldnt even survive. Not only that, but you'd lose half the atmosphere due to heat density and pressure density changing.

If anything goes impact on an orbital that size much of the atmosphese will go bye bye...

but yeah maybe mars could hold an atmosphere... moving venus would be cooler though.. venus is the same size as earth (roughly) and speaking of venus we could take the vast amounts of excess gas needed to terraform mars from venus.

But you need to consider that you need a quick change in mars since the planet has a very weak magnetic field.. (maybe not even any magnetic field) . The solar winds hit mars without the mercy earth's magnetic field give.
so any small amounts of gas will actually be blown away.

Terraforming bases around making a inhabitable planet similar to earth. Only planets with roughly the same properties can be "remade". Mars is not very much like earth.. it is both smaller and as said has either a weak, or no magnetic field makihng it more hazardous than the moon (wich is partially guarded by the earths magnetic field.)

Oh well, Mars is the optimal location for a second planet. We just need to make it green, pretty and habitable.

Nope... europa is probably better (moon orbiting Jupiter)

Has water already.. could compromise and take ice from europa to mars...

But you know Europa is WAY too far off for it to be inhabitable before Futurama?
