The ending of The Black Hole is the most WTF ending I've seen for a science fiction movie, even more so than 2001. Not because it's deep or meaningful, simply because you're like, " . . .? Disney made this? Where's Jiminey Cricket to make it all right?" Maybe a better explanation is that it's Fantasia on a mean acid trip - just the ending, the rest of the movie is a halfway decent '60s sci-fi film.
Anyways, according to Stephen Hawking, there's nothing on the other side of a black hole because it's not a hole. Think of it more like a funnel where everything that falls into it is compressed into a single point of tremendous mass and gravity.
And as far as the afterlife - I'm a Catholic that believes in that view minus all the BS added in medieval times (indulgences, etc.) that in truth no sane Catholic believes in today. I don't think you can even ask for them. I also believe that you don't have to be Catholic to get into what some might call heaven, just be, as I think John Paul II said, just be the best Jew, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, Christian etc. that you can be. And I don't think living eternally would be so bad since you'd most likely lose all concept of time anyway.
