The Way FPS

Postby notsoinsaneguy » Sat Feb 11, 2006 10:55 am

Imagine the way, but with the stylings of a first person shooter! With swords! Like it doesn't make sense, but wouldn't it be cool?! I certainly think so! Lun would have to put in so decent long-range weapons. Which would require some creativity since the entire way series thus far has included like 1 or 2 pieces of ranged weaponry.

One word:

No.

But seriously, can you imagine the Plunge in the first person? Third-person might work, but the battles would still have to be turn based to be any good. Think FFX, etc.

No, it really wouldn't be cool.

And don't think FFX either. That game was crap.

I think CHrono Trigger, WoW, Diablo combat, that the enemies just walk around, and you/your party, just engages them. If the enemy is human you can choose to challenge them to a plunge.

I think this just might be the worst idea of all time.

Giving four-year-olds loaded semi-automatic weapons and telling them to go play on the nearest interstate?

Definitely a better idea than this.

Bah you guys and ur rpg-stylings. Fine, I simply suggested this because I assumed that the vast majority of male gamers love fps...but apparantly this is not the case on this board.

The vast majority of remotly intelligent gamers all like RPGs. Gamer's who like First-Person-Shooters are usually non-commital gamers and usually are just regular people who like shooting people. Y'know, idiots who like action movies for example.

You know, after 1997, RPGs sell more then FPSs right?

FPS used to be fun, but then they ran out of new ideas, and because of that lack of ideas we have Halo.

Actually, FPSs do take skills, just a different kind-of skill. I actually love FPSs occasionally.

However, a the Way FPS... Just, no. The world is too slow paced and/or melee combat based for an FPS.

I'm with Aegis - nothing wrong with liking FPS's, but a Way FPS just doesn't seem like it would work. The story and gameplay just don't lend themselves to the FPS genre.

I did say they didn't require skill but.... its true they do require skill, just nothing compared to the needed skill for RPG's. When I play an FPS, its eather an old one or a really well made one, COD II for example. Golden Eye is another.

What skill is there in RPGs? Well MOST RPGs, turn based battle system, no skill required. If it's an Action RPG then sure, it might require some, or maybe has a fast pased ATB, but there is very little skill required ever with RPGs.

Tactical and strategic skill are very important in RPGs. Twitch and Tactical are both different kinds of skills. The only games that really don't require skills are badly made RPGs and most MMORPGs.
