No, it was simply dubbed a drug by about every source because of the goverment (mind you, I think it is much worse then drugs), but it, in fact, lacks one of the most defining parts of a drug.

I personally find it incredibly amusing how much the government has conditioned our generation to believe that drugs are more dangerous than they actually are.

I submit myself as a humble example. I've done lots and lots of different drugs. I've done drugs most people never heard of. I've spent more time high on this or that than I can remember, and yet my overall intelligence, academic performance, analytical skill, and motor control have yet to see any negative long term effects. If anything, for me, drug use has been a very rewarding and spiritual experience.

Now I'm not saying that there's no damage done by drugs; to make such a claim would be ridiculous. But consider this: drugs aren't the only thing that damages your brain. Ever hit your head on a shelf or desk? Irreperable brain damage. Ever hold your breath for a long time at the pool? Irreperable brain damage.

Banning these activities simply because they can damage your brain would be insane. You can sit around hitting yourself on the head with a hammer all day, legally. But if you choose to damage your brain with a drug, suddenly you're a criminal.

Sorry all you anti-drug people out there, but I believe in FREEDOM, not OPRESSION.

EDIT: Sarcasm's post beat mine, but I'd still like to address it.

Most drugs are not addictive (though almost anything in the world is potentially addictive psychologically). And yes, LSD is a drug. I'm afraid that your definition of 'drug' differs from reality's.

But I'm an open minded guy (can you tell?), so I invite you to supply your own definition of what a drug is, as it may help stop all this pointless bickering.

I completely agree, but giving too much freedom to the common civilian (read:idiot) can be dangerous. freedom is good, and should dominate a society, but too much of it could cause a society to divide itself, often enough causing conflict, a conflict that costs some their lives.

I can see what you mean, and I agree that certain limits need to be in place in order for a society to function. However, I'm still morally and fundamentally against any person or organization being able to tell me what I can and cannot do to my own body ( or for that matter, what I can do in a sexual context, e.g.: homosexual issue)

In my humble opinion, the role of the governent should ideally be to ensure the personal freedom of its citizens. As a side note, I find it terribly ironic that Americans revolted from Britain, fought and DIED in order to gain this freedom and independance (the 'founding principles' of their country), and now are becoming increasingly restrictive (drugs, wiretaps/PATRIOT act, gays, etc)

The fact that we're free to hit ourselves over the head with the hammer yet most of us not doing so is proof of some sort of responsibility of this idiocy.

Teach a kid that smacking himself around the head a few times not only hurts, but causes permenant brain damage makes him not do it. Teach a kid about the various dangerous effects that might arrise from drug use, less likely to do it. Even if everybody had the right to do drugs, they still wouldn't, the dangerous thing is societies abuse of it, say through peer pressure. As long as it's their own choice I'm okay. But if they disagree with drug abuse and get addicted for a stupid reason like "all the cool kids are doing it" that's when it's wrong. If you legallised any drug (I'm only really for the legallisation of Cannabis really...) are the people against the legallisation going to take it?

If a kid wants to do drugs, let him do drugs. You wanna smack yourself around the head with a hammer? Knock yourself out (Notice how funny I am?).

On the subject of what a drug is, I've never considered the addiction thing to be a big deal of the definition (as Iteroth said, you can psychologically get addicted to anything anyway, even say, string or something). As we were taught by our lovely Drug Helper Friends at school, a drug falls into one of three categories, Hallucinogen, Depressent and something else. Y'know, like E and stuff. I forget the catagory. Basically if it has any of the three effects, then it's pretty much a drug.

Sorry, just needed to point out exactly what you missed.

As much as I'd prefer marijuana to not be legalized (seriously out of spite), I wouldn't argue against it being legalized. Other drugs, no thanks, they do have considerable long term damaging effects.

The anarchy thing was cute about five years ago, now... nothing. The earth's population would need be cut down to about 1% for anarchy to be worthwhile.

Agreed Strayed. Anarchy is a thing of nonconformists and people who lack the ability to fit in and the ability to realize their inability to fit in and do something about it instead of bitch and complain.

As for drugs, Iteroth, man, I have nothing against them. Its just the propaganda since about...the fourth grade (I am not doing cigarrettes, thats for sure...I've seen the tar from just one...) that fucks with my judgement. I will most certainly try them in college for sure, but I can't risk doing it here. My mom's got the fucking KGB of La Canada with parents looking out for other parents and shit. It is so easy to get caught for some reason...

Also, I'd be a hypocrate if I did drugs. I slam my brother Adam for doing drugs every time we get into an arguement. Why, I just owned him 5 minutes ago in an arguement. I was explaining that my dog didn't want to be touched obviously, because it growled when somebody touched it. Shes old, so I'm pretty sure its joint pain or something, like the vet said she would get. So I tell the fucker to stop touching the dog. He asks me whose dog it was. I said its the families and he says 'for now she's mine', and I said no, you're hurting her, she stays put. He gets all "oh, so she's YOURS then" and I just shake my head and point out how he should join the debate team and how they have the master position and how he could be the master debator on the team, which is a play on words which I thought was corny.

He gets all in my face, demands I look up "Debater" in an old dictionary instead of doing a friggin google search because "old is more reliable" and I pointed out that the definition of evolution isn't accurate in our old dictionary (Something like "A nonreligious idea that man is a bald monkey" and thats it...yeah, its really old). So then he just starts throwing insults at me. I point out how he has nothing on me and he'd best just shut up and save himself the effort of trying to think. This obviously pissed him off, and he says something about how I'm a leet haxxor or something? It was the most feeble insult I've heard. So I tell him that he's stupid for calling me that cause I haven't hacked a damn thing in my life. So then he just resorts to yelling shut up. I just gave him a look and he just gets angrier and angrier and threatens to punch me in the face.

Now I am generally slim at this point. I've gained 15 lbs in about 6 weeks of training or so, might be 8, I dunno, mid-may, so about 6...so I'm not too skinny any more. He's about 5 lbs heavier still cos he's got a slower metabolism and he's done training for about a year now, so he's upset that he wont be able to pull the "well fuck you, I can beat you up, so I win" shit he's tried before (and failed, I always pin him down) so I tell him I'll punch him right the fuck back. Hes a overhygenic nancy-boy who has bleached pillowcases from all the overnight acne lotion he puts on all the time, so hitting him in the face is like...sacrelidge! So he just ends up covering his face (he was lying in bed the whole time) and tells me to go back to my haxxor bubble with my leet friends.

I tell him any judgement he makes is most likely invalid because the stoners I know personally, so Iteroth is exluded, make the worst generalizations about people, even when they're clean. So I tell him he's just a stupid stoner fucktard who obviously hasn't a clue or a speck of talent for debating with me and he gets mad!!! zomg, did he just go there? Yes, yes I did. So I correct myself. Oh wait, was it pot? Or was it Vicodin addiction? No, wait, it was coke! Nonono, it was alcohol...yes, alcohol. Do you know of it? It was that stuff you were chugging at the party you threw while I was still in the house. Yeah...I don't think I can trust the judgement of a teenage drinker, who can't even drive yet.

So I asked him if he was done trying and oh dear god, I wanted to take a picture of the look of defeat on his face.

So yeah....no drugs until college, which isn't for another year or so. I might try drinking between now and then, but I honestly don't care...if it happens, it happens. I'll try and login to the irc if I get drunk, but I am definitely turning my phone off then.

Cigarettes are something that I don't agree with. There is some stimulant in there that relaxes people or something, but I've personally never felt it. They're disgusting and I would argue them banned if I didn't use tobacco anyway.

Just because you don't like something is no reason to ban it.

EDIT: And Anarchy is something everyone should strive for. Everyone working for progress, and helping each other, not because they're told to by the government or religion, but because they want to.
