They've made ANOTHER goddamn best-of album. I'm still debating whether or not to get it, since I've now got "For the Sake of Revenge" AND "The end of this Chapter", so ....what the crap? Are they completely selling out or something?

I doubt they even re-recorded all of the songs. Well, with the exception of two remakes, but those were from like...I think (both) the first album, but whatever...

Highly disappointing. I'm betting they're either selling out cos Tony's outta ideas or they're going mainstream cos he's got a zillion albums ready to release.....

Sonata's live stuff ruined them for me. That's why if Dragonforce releases a live album I'm probably not going to listen to it. Though on the contrary, Threshold's live albums really sold it for me, I suppose. It's just earth shattering when the whole band in a power metal group sings harmonies.

The only live recording I really liked was Iced Earth's "Alive in Athens," but that was like the coming of Christ and his Indy garage band to Athens (Feat. Moses, the first pope, and a pastafarian pirate for "shits and giggles"). I think the had never gone to the region and they have a large fanbase there, so they played 3 nights (Same location I believe) and every night the fans were so fuckin into it that it was quite the memorable experience.

Anyways, live albums are usually not worth it. But Sonata's released probably 3 or 4 Live DVD's now and it's getting kind of old. "For the sake of revenge" was a "Best of," and so is this crap. Both had DVD's. Also, "End of this chapter," was another "best-of/collection" and had a DVD....What the fuck?

I am fairly convinced they're doing something major, because now they're releasing way more merchandise than before and they're doing more DVD's and promo things in Japan, so its safe to assume they're milking their success for money. Again, I don't know where this will take them, but I bet it involves a bottle of Jack Daniel's either way.

If you want to hear some fresh power metal, pick up the recent Blind Guardian album "A Twist in the Myth". Another group I've taken a liking to is a band named Pagan's Mind. I don't think the singer has the best voice, but it goes well with the tempo and rhythms of the music.

I take bands one at a time my friend. My range isn't that large as other 'headz, but we'll see.

I usually go album-by-album through a bands entire discography if possible. Allows me to get a feel for whoever I'm listening to. No jerky or jarring or confusing transitions between one style and another because I changed bands. I know my bros got some pantera, I'll ask him about it.

Them. I want you to listen to Sonata. Then to Soilwork. Then To DethKlok. The first two will simply prove my point. It's a contrast in sound, tone, and style. They all have the "melodic" down fine. If you want, listen to Blind Guardian then Listen to Dragon Force. Its the tones my friend. Metal isn't simply "metal". There are different styles and genres for a reason.
