Chronicles of Aelia: Ages of Glory

Postby Escushion » Mon Jul 05, 2004 7:22 am

Odd of me to pop up out of nowhere after a while just to link something, but I usually only come here around the time of an Episode release, since there don't seem to be too many Way theories that are particularly hair-brained and need listening to :P.

A couple friends of mine have been developing an online browser-based multi-player strategy game for a long time now, and after months and months of testing, it's finally completed this weekend. Now all it needs are players.

Here's what the game is like: It's a game where you don't have to play very often to be doing something. Actions take hours. You set the command in and it will tell you how long it will be until it happens. This is only for Traveling or big things like that; other things you can do instantly.

The game has multiple job classes, allowing you to steal from other players, set up shops in towns, brew potions, tame wild animals to be your army, hunt down other players for cash, etc. There are also more prominent jobs with salaries. You can be a Lord, making a town and managing it, a Magistrate that helps the Lord, or a General, hiring troops to battle other players, attempting to destroy their settlements and eventually their capital.

It probably doesn't sound very exciting, does it? It didn't to me when my friend was trying to convince me to play when they needed beta testers, and I quickly became enveloped in it. I don't know why it's so much fun, but it is.

There's also role-playing involved, since you create your own characters for different Ages, in which there are different conflicts. Background information on races and histories can be found at the site itself, and they also have contributions to the site for those purposes, including short stories, poetry, and art.

Ages of Glory

Try it out. It's a bit to handle, but if you stick with it, you'll find it to be a lot of fun. There are also help manuals to guide you through what different spells and units do, as well as basic tips. If you end up on my side of something, I'll give you some extra advice myself.

Impressive. It's very professional.

online browser-based multi-player strategy game

Does that mean MMORPG?
What the hell...I'll try it...I'm playing most of the MMORPG's out there anyways.

[edit] I advise advertising here.
It's a huge forum, and most of the players are playing KoC and other MMORPG's. You're advertising would be accepted, and your game would get a bunch of players.

[edit] holy flaming hells I just started a quest and it's going to take ELEVEN HOURS???
The land beneath the sky,

A lost love carried on,
Words to a lonely song.

It's a game you only have to log in to a couple times a day to check on your characters. Quests can take from 2 hours to 20 hours. It's a lot to get into, so it's best to experiment for now and then see how it goes.

It's not really an MMORPG as much as strategy, since many players build their own town or help develop others' towns. But I guess it does have some MMORPG aspects too. I don't know; I hate MMORPGs :P.

I do like the fact that in the game you can be a loner or build your own town.
<WarV> You know what this place needs?
<Strayed> hookers?
<@Jeramyu> boobs?
<WarV> How about hookers WITH boobs!
<Strayed> I don't like fat guys.

Yeah, there's a lot of information to swallow (at least it's more comprehendable than Daravan :P.) The makers will be glad to hear that people are liking it though.

Well, the point of that is so that you aren't sitting at your computer waiting and waiting for something to happen. For some people, the game takes patience; for others, it's a luxury to be able to play an online game with lots of people and not have it interfere with your life.
