I'd reccomend some warmen songs, they're not as quick as Dragonforce, but they're damn well better.

Also, how can you not like Maiden?

I have a Garcia Effect against speed metal. We lost a battle of the bands to a bunch of REALLY shitty speed metal bands. Basically, they all sound like Dethklok, minus the awesome, and minus the musical notes. I swear, entire songs of theirs were just played percussion, and the rest were on the same chord.

Impossible. Remember at the end of Indiana Jones and The Raiders of the Lost Ark where they open up the Ark and all the nazi's faces melt? That was because the Ark contained the guitar solos from "Soldiers of the Wasteland" (And yes, that makes perfect sense). Dragonforce also played for an infant Chuck Norris. The result? The youngest person ever to spontaneously grow a beard. When Mr. T needs his gold chains shined? He listens to Dragonforce. What is the Transporter listening to as he flips his car upside down so a crane catches the bomb underneath? Dragonforce. You can't escape it. It's everywhere, and it's awesome.

Well if the rest of my band is up up to and can learn over 200 pages of guitar tabs in a few weeks then I think:-
Nemesis - Arch Enemy
Follow The Reaper - Children of Bodom
Hold Back The Day - DevilDriver
Thunderhorse - DethKlok
Duncan Hills Coffee DethJingle - DethKlok
Operation Ground and Pound - DragonForce
Fury of the Storm - DragonForce
Blackwater Park - Opeth
In Mist She Was Standing - Opeth
Swamped - Lacuna Coil
Vengeance - Yngwie Malmsteen

I've never heard of warmen but I'll take look. If you've watched those videos I posted links to earlier you'd see that Yngwie Malmsteen is king when it come to lightning-fast shred metal and makes even DragonForce seem slow, and he's Sweedish too.

It does NOT get any more epic than that.

And probably the best epic metal music video ever... Operation Ground and Pound (wait for the solos)
Those weren't special effects, btw. They really do produce lightning, summon aliens, and start the apocalypse when they shred.

What the fuck? Where are the dragons and swords of the undying flame? Where's the quest of the brotherhood of warriors to destroy evil? One person playing a guitar (repetitively, I might add) does not make epic.

these are all really cute and everything, but when you're ready to start eating at the grown-ups table, consider these:

I might have to fold over to your arguments, but I feel like many of Dragonforce's songs sound like many of Dragonforce's songs.
A bit on the repeating side of things.

Maybe I'm just ignorant... to explore this I shall download all Dragonforce songs I can get my hands on and make an in depth analysis.

And DragonForce aren't repetitive? Malmsteen makes DragonForce seem slow. And generally I prefer technical ability over groovy music videos, so lack of Dragons is acceptable, especially becuase he has an entire album based around Dragons (I think).

If I may say something that might offend some people.

I find that music that isn't technically perfect is better than music which is technically perfect.
My basis is that 'perfect' scales, melodies and such have no character, they're bland and anyone can do them on a computer.

When a band plays live they're almost bound to make mistakes, the fans might notice them, and maybe some halfwit will get annoyed, but a flaw made when performing might just be because the musician is enjoying the show aswell, playing with the crowd and not putting all of his attention into playing.
Just the fact that many performers can play their instruments and still find space to jerk about on stage is impressive, I mean, I can't play a C chord on a guitarr and speak simoultainously.

To get back to the perfect versus crude point.
More crude scales, that are off tune bu just a fraction are more compelling.
Rock especially is rebellious in nature, and metal supposedly is a heavier version of rock, and I'm puzzled when I hear a technically flawless piece of rock.

What's rebellious with following every rule of musicry?

Forgive my ramblings.

Oh, and if you think that I dislike people who play perfectly then you need to think again.

Still don't change the fact that Malmsteen IS the greatest guitarist on earth.
Telephalsion wrote:I mean, I can't play a C chord on a guitarr and speak simoultainously.
Neither can I.

Tele I kind of agree, I generally believe an 8 year old playing Sweet Child O'Mine with a few errors more impressive than a 40 year old virtuoso who playing the fastest Malmsteen piece blind-folded with the guitar behind their back flawlessly.

Telephalsion wrote:What's rebellious with following every rule of musicry?
It's a damn side harder? You do realise that Rock initially follows the same musical rules/patterns as blues right? What is rebellious is ad-libbing these "rules" or adding your twist, which is precisely what all these artists do. Malmsteen wrote a song that sounds bluesy without following any Blues Chord Progressions, none whatsoever... yet still sounds bluesy.
