Selling RM2K Games?

Postby Guest » Thu Jul 15, 2004 5:25 am

hey... do you think it would be legal to make an rm2k game and sell it but not for the game itself... but for packaging? Like the game is free but it costs money to be shipped in a box and a custom cd case? To me it sounds legal as long as I provide a FREE download also and state in a tos that by accpeting the payment for shipping it on cd you agree your buying the box and case and not the cd itself?

What the hell would people pay for a box and case? I still don't think it's legal.

Well, your telling me if lun made a custom box and had special stuff in it made by him you wouldn't even think of spending like 4$ to buy it? I know I would... :) And I think it is legal because your getting money for the box and stuff NOT for the cd contents... I just thought it would be a weird idea but you really don't need to say why would someone do that, rather give your thoughts on it instead of blowing it away with a why comment.

I dont even think its legal to download rm2k and make games at all. Selling it would be even more illegal.

Hmm let me clarify my statement a little better. What if I sold the book to the game a special cd case with a blank cd in it (so they can burn the game themselves ;)) with a custom case title on it and a custom box and sell it for like 2$ or even for free... just like give me your address and I will send a copy of the book, a box with boxart, and a cd case with a blank cd? I mean it's very original and THAT WAY you cannot be sued because you only sell what YOU made (nothing in coherance with the rpg maker)... I am trieng to accomplish the originality of my game for example I downloaded Poser 4 to make cineatics for my game... yes it will be EXTREMELY hard for me to do it but think about this... when the game is done and people see cinematics in it that don't suck it will be kinda cool right? yeah! see? im just trieng to be original, not an RTP Ripoff lmao.

I suppose that it might be technically legal to do so, but keep in mind that the RM2K/RM2K3 communities are made up of kids with no money.

... I said that the game could be downloaded for free... but like if the game is a hit or w/e people could get a free box ser with a book of the story etc... or pay like 2$ for it. You know?

I see where you're coming from, but would you be able to sell enough to make up for production costs? (ink, paper, etc.)

Probably not but I run a web company that makes like 30,000$ a year so far so I don't think funding it would put me in debt or take me out of debt either.

I'd do it for Lun, but I've never played a Splixed Production game 8) , if Ryan turned out to be a hidden game master, sure I'd buy it.

Technically yes, but look how big the way is. Most likely if lun made features like a book of his whole game or w/e and special casing people would buy it. (I WOULD).

It's not legal, and if it was, you'd have to be a moron to buy it.

If, and only If, the way was an entire big game would it be worht making a CD. 700 mega bytes... each episode around 10-20... about... 50 episodes?
I doubt Lun would have the paitience to dothat.
And even if such a day would come we would still have downloaded all episodes and shared them to the world. :P

But If you studied the laws carefully enough you might find enough loopholes to sell an rm2k game.

now ewre you to make a game, and it were to catch on very well then you were to make and sell merchandise of said game that would be legal...ie..t-shirts, lunchboxes, books, what have you, then i'm sure you could make some money off of that and that is perfectly legal.....i know that were Lun to decide to do that, (already working on T-shirts) I, at least would buy it for me and or my kids. not that they would need it at this age hehe 2 and 3.
