A new(?) theory about The Way

Postby Kyle » Fri Aug 06, 2004 8:16 am

I recently watched my friend play all 5 episodes for the first time (he loves it now as well by the way :D ) and this time I noticed something that has lead me to form a new, though drastic theory.

Suppose The Way always repeats itself, being stuck in a cycle. Landorin is the start of it. Follow me on this :

At the end of episode 5 we see Gaius and Rhue run really fast through the forest like Serene and Rhue were running (only not side by side, but it was clear there was pressure to run FAST). Then Gaius stands on the exact position of Serena. Rhue is standing where Rhue has always stood.

So, now let's look at what could happen. Someone is going to push Gaius off the cliff. This could be :

- Kloe because she wants to talk to Gaius one more time or get herself killed by him.
- Traziun because Gaius killed his mother
- Traziun because he wants to face Rhue alone because he killed his mother

Then, a threat (symbolised as three beasts in the memory, but this could be just one person) steps up to Rhue. This could be :

- Traziun because Rhue killed his mother
- Strata because he wants to plunge Rhue (if you skipped the Plunge Rhue just runs after Gaius)
- Strata because he STILL wants to kill Rhue (even if you plunged him)

I haven't figured out what's going to happen with the aura-absorbtion and the sword giving persons yet, but let's move on.

Serena's pendant gets washed up somewhere, where the next Cetsa finds it. How does it wash up? Simple, the current Cetsa threw it in the water again! I have not yet figured out how the blood gets on it if I'm correct.

Then there's Estrana. In the previous cycle this could have been Janwen, which also burned to the ground due to an unknown reason (could be the summoning from the pits as well, but because of the few survivors nobody knows for sure).

I know this all seems a bit farfetched and doesn't take into account any of the aura theories nor Gaius wanting the shadow sword and Rhue being the Phantom Slasher, but there could be an explanation for this.

I just brought it up as a possibility, it's not what I believe is going to happen though. Just think about it for a second and then formulate a reply

If The Way perpetually repeated itself, I think someone other than Rhue would notice, especially if generations of people had been trekking along. I think maybe a less severe representation of that might work though.

Nice theory, but farfetch'd...not that the stuff we've seen in the series are normal...

Yeah, but the set-up at the end of EP5 almost screams two guys are going to come in to ruin Rhue and Gaius' fun. I think Traz will get Gaius (I think Gaius killed his mom) and Strata will get Rhue (Obvious reason). But Traz also has to go for Rhue like the "beasts" did to "Rhue" earlier. So maybe you're right that Traz just wants Gaius out of the way?

Oh, and yes people DID "figure" out some parts repeat themselves. Someone in Estrana claimed she was studying the PS and learned there were several "tyrants" like him in the past.

The two people coming at Rhue could be Scatha and Dirk, because we never see where they went after that night. I doesn't make much sense though.

Actually, I'd think Scatha and Dirk would be the two people Rhue meets after he wakes up. They would seem to fit that role more...well, except giving Rhue his sword, but, er, we know Dirk is the "closest thing to a forerunner", so maybe he has some special swords he found. Okay, so it's pushing it. Meh.
