It's a totally different kind of game from any member of the Final Fantasy series. It's quite impressive for what it is, but some people may not care for its particular style.

Yo really can't compare the two. You got an episode of The Way which is 3-4 hours of pure joy and you have a 40+ hour game that delivers a good time for almost the entire game.

If The Way would be a 40+ hour game and would be interesting the full duration, it would beat a Final Fantasy easy. But now you just can't make the comparison. Maybe when all episodes are released, you can say The Way as a whole is better than any Final Fantasy.

I also play RPGs for the storyline, but that doesn't mean I expect a storyline like The Way's in every RPG I play (if I did I'd be disappointed 95% of the time). The only three RPGs I know that have a truly immersive story in my opinion are The Way, Xenosaga Episode I and Final Fantasy VII (if you think FFVII has a shabby story, try explaining it to me and tell those 60 page analysis writers they're analyzing a shabby story).

So, what does that leave me with? A whole lot of other good RPGs that may not compare with htose three, but are still a whole lot fun to play, if you get over some of the flaws every game has.

Of course, if you don't have the time for any commercial RPGs, you'll have it even more rough. I don't know many free and short RPGs that qualify in terms of story or even gameplay for that matter (unless you play SNES roms, but they run out fast).

i didn't say final fantasy games have a bad storylines i said i prefer the way's
in fact i'll quote it
i just prefer the way's

FFVII is famous for being one of if not the best rpg ever, but i prefer the way. thats just my opinion, dont put words in my mouth as i have never implied that it had a "shabby story".
i havn't finished FFVII, i only got it about a week ago and havn't been playing it much. from what i've seen im somewhat impressed. perhaps when i have completed it i will change my mind and crown it the best but as of yet i have not been swayed.

one last thing
if you get over some of the flaws every game has.

are you even arguing with me? i never mentioned anything about that.
the way has flaws, as do most games

Sorry, Flibbo, I didn't mean you specifically. I meant "you" as in the plural. I didn't have anyone specific in mind, but I know there are a lot of people out there who just don't grasp FFVII's story and therefore proclaim it's a bad story. I've seen it happen, A LOT.

I wasn't arguing with you at all, just adding some content to this topic.

The central storyline of Final Fantasy VII really is excellent. However, I think the main story gets dragged down by the large number of essentially irrelevant sidestories that just seem to pop up incidentally. As part of the game, you are forced to explore the histories of Barrett, Nanaki, and Yuffie (well, not forced in Yuffie's case); of these, only Barrett's background has any relevance to the main story, but even that is quite minimal. I would have much preferred to see more of Victor and Reeve, who's backgrounds were important to the main plotline, but were never substantially developed. And it's not just character-based quests; there are simply too many secondary side-ventures that come up in the course of the main plot.

Of course, some people like this. They denigrate Final Fantasy X in comparison, because the story is too direct, and every event is topical to the main thrust. While I too would have liked to see Final Fantasy X be longer, I am glad they didn't add extra irrelevancies that would disturb the "This is my story," character of the game.

maybe it was because it was being told like that that they didn't

in 7 you are more of a spectator to the events as they happen rather than being told the story from someone who knows it firsthand
i wonder what could of happend in number 10 that tidus doesn't know about?

Ooooo. The love.

i would prefer watching a real movie or a flash movie than watching a 3d movie. that would awkward, in my opinion.

i never really talked to you at all but whatever, i dont mind. you seem to have a similar relationship with alot of people on this forum

hmmm, yeh i see your point but a flash might not be any better. depends on how well the creator does it.
now that i think about it a movie might not be so great, you wouldn't get to see the surroundings as well as you can in the game. in a game your in the world, in a movie your just observing it
