So...I downloaded finale notepad so I could work on stuff here while i'm at work babysitting the comp lab...(a.k.a. getting paid to sit on ass for 4 hours) Unfortunately, it doesn't export to midi, so I'll have to do that at home....Apparently the recent finaleNP version is based off of Finale 2k5's notation engine....which actually incorporates the drawn dynamics into the playback.....I'm using Finale 2k1 at home....and though it can draw dynamics, it doesn't use them in playback as midi data....(have to tinker with the midi volume in a sequencer by hand for good dynamics) .... In short: damn but I wish I had 2k5 .... *weeps while hoping to scrounge and save so he can get an academic liscensed version*
Now that I'm done ranting, I'd like you all to know, I've got a really good Idea for the title theme, and I've sketched a good part of it out. I've gotten about a good 45s to about a minute (depending on tempo) of it done, which is just the first section/phrase, and I'll see if I can spruce it up and stuff, post it (here or elsewhere) and see what you guys think of it. It's kinda a modal feeling, and kinda melancholy, but I think it fits with the title. Oh well, I'll get opinions later today i guess. Ciao for now.
I know it's probably going to take me awhile to write the music, but I want to make sure it's fairly good stuff mmmkay. Battle music and stuff shouldn't take as long cause i usually just play it through a midi keyboard instead of writing it note by note, but the orchestral stuff takes me longer because of instrumentation/dynamics and whatnot, and it's usually more complex musically, so I have to notate it by hand and export to midi later. Anyhoo, I'll keep working on stuff. Good luck with the script dumps
---edit---
P.S. I think this theme will translate well into using it for the protagonist, as well as battle themes and such. It's a short, but good and usable motif that I think I can easily manipulate and transform it into different things. ^_^
