We can broadly establish there is a sort of connection between Rhue, the PS, and Gaius. They share qualities and, in some cases, memories, though no proof can be found that they are the same person, they are similar enough that a "close" connection can be formed. Gaius is not a figment of Rhue's mind, as other characters have acknowledged his existance, some outside of Rhue's perception (Kloe and Gaius in Estrana comes to mind). The PS and Rhue seem VERY closely connection, so much so that they may be the same person. However meeting with Jopaga has introduced the concept of auras.
Auras are distributed one to a person. The only way to obtain another is to absorb it. Rhue has been shown to be able to absorb auras through either his body or sword as a medium. His "deposit" of auras can be visited only when his sword is missing. So the auras are contained in his own body, at the least. He has a desire to hold onto his sword, indicating either he has issues about it, or it wants something from him.
Now, personally I think the sword wants to eat auras. It convinces him to kill, and it slowly seems to sap away his sense of reality, feeding off his own. One could say that after long enough time with his sword, an aura of his will be completely eaten away. Jopaga stated that without an aura, a person becomes instinctual, like an animal. This also plays in with Trazuin's theory that the sword brings out what the person wants most, or their instinctual desire. If you hold onto a Shadow Sword, you'll lose your higher self and become driven to complete a quest. This may be why Rhue is so steadfastly obsessed with finding Serena, and why Traz wants to kill his father, why Kalmar wants to find his perfect blade, why Lyrra wants to hunt down Strata, etc. etc.
I should stop now, I'm fairly tired as is, but I'm open to comments and criticisms.
