Personally, I think Lun's next game would run on an engine written by him.

True. Actually, I had to do the same thing, since the RM2K coding for the roll table is...messy. However, you really need to look at the coding to get the right sounds, and the right placement/size of graphics. Which also requires quite a bit of screenshots too...Telephalsion wrote:SpaceBoy2000 wrote:And, it's useful to have RM2K when you're trying to reverse engineer the Plunge.

Actually judging from what lun wrote in the wanderers guidebook I was able to create the damage roll table and create cases for the attacks, didn't get farther before I got boored though.

Heh. I hope it isn't TOO ambitious. I could add in a voice recognition system (like, you say the attacks instead of typing them), but the size of the program will increase more and more. Not to mention it might take a few tries for you to get it to work, and it would be a disaster if the system choose the wrong attack. Plus, it means that the players can't talk during the Plunge.Winnipeg wrote:Absolutely, that would make the game! Why have an online game otherwise?
That's how I always wrote thingsTelephalsion wrote:you used java right? is it possible to expand the game width, after creating the main plunge engine? If so then try to finish up with the plunge, leave room for easy alterations and additions sohuld it some up, like addint new blade arts and stuff. Keep up the good work.

That's how I always wrote things Very Happy Technically, you can add new Lyns and Blade Arts to the current implementation.
So instead of messages popping up, you hear people talking.
Ranking system for players. Maybe I can even work out a servlet to display the stats on a webpage. Not that likely though
However, I will probably need permission from Lun to do this...better go ask soon.

You could add that, but in my opinion a keyboard or mouse controller would work just as good (probably better).
The problem for voice recognition is that it is quite crude to use as a translating or transcribing tool. It would be possible to setup voice commands and controls, but to use as a translation system would not be possible at this stage. As for voice commands, it would be nice, but probably too impractical to use in game now that I think about it. Oh well...Eckolin wrote:So instead of messages popping up, you hear people talking.
Now that is a reasonable feature, but like you said, hard for English people. Of course you could combine that with speech recognition so people can also read what was said.
I meant in the current alpha version I have out for people to download and take a look. You can add your own Lyns and fields and Blade Arts. Though a basic knowledge of Java is required. And even in the final implementation, people should be able to use their own sprite set for their own Lyns.Eckolin wrote:That's how I always wrote things Very Happy Technically, you can add new Lyns and Blade Arts to the current implementation.
Someone would have to know java (which can be learned, of course), and it would kill any online compatiblity (unless everyone uses the changed version).
Hmm, well, an ELO system could be implemented if the "experience" part of the system is removed, and everyone is stuck on a level playing ground. You'd start with a basic Lyn, and have a set amount of CTP. Then, each notch item would have its own CTP value. You'd customize your character by changing the notch item mix. I might be able to make it so that you'd customize your character based on settings before a match, so people can vary the amount of CTP given for each PlungeEckolin wrote:Ranking system for players. Yay. You could use something like the ELO system for chess and checkers, but that wouldn't take into account the possible advantage of one of the plungers in terms of stats.
Well, since I'm knee deep in SAT II cramming, beta testing, and AP homework, I think it'll take a bit before I actually get started...Eckolin wrote:However, I will probably need permission from Lun to do this...better go ask soon.
Write it now, show it later
(I wonder if the Plunge Online can be considered a fan feature...)
Implement the Estrana casino, with the lobby for people to meet up and talk and stuff, and the actual arena made, but without spectators or cheering noises. That would be for other players to go in and see. The problem would be that it would limit the server to one plunge at a time.
