IRC Plunge?

Postby nightshadow » Sat Jan 07, 2006 2:42 pm

[12:38:00] <thenightsshadow> if only
[12:38:05] <thenightsshadow> think someone could program a bot
[12:38:11] <thenightsshadow> to do some sort of plunge here?
[12:38:19] <thenightsshadow> like !plunge to start
[12:38:29] <thenightsshadow> type the attack in /query to the bot
[12:38:35] <thenightsshadow> and watch what happens...
[12:40:35] <thenightsshadow> that would be interesting, ne?

!plunge -> Initiate a plunge, and wait for someone else/To accept another plunge

/msg bot Cross Sweep (Risk) -> Cross Sweep with Risk

Stuff like that.
I know I couldn't do that, but do you think it's possible for the near future?

It could be done, to bad i have no friggin clue how to program in irc :P

Basically if you had a rock paper scissors bot then add some damage variables, or maybe not even that, you could just have the three attacks:

Cross vs Cross, *Waybot parries your strike
Cross vs Lunge *Waybot lunges past your offence, you die
Cross vs Drop *Waybot is slammered to the ground by your dropslash

I might be able to do it. I'm not very good at mIRC coding but I can try to do something tomorrow.

Alright!

Basically, there needs to be a way to tell the bot the attack you're doing without the other person seeing. Possibly in a /query.

Risk attacks, links and Blade arts don't have to be added for now, and everyone should start a Wanderer/Lyn.

Health: Dependant on other stats chosen.
Plunge: 1-2
Damage Threshold: 5-7
Critical Hit %: 0-2
Critical Strength: 0-2
Strides: 0-1

Something along those lines. Of course, it has to be fair.

Ok, I'll try to do something. Thanks for the stats, I'm not really familiar with the whole plunge system because I'm only at ep. 3 now :p

Ok, the script isn't ready yet(and probably not in a few days I think). I decided to make a tournament system where max. of 8 players and min. of 2 players compete. To start a tournament, someone must say !start. Then people can join the game by saying !join.

Before competing they will have to say !addme to be added to the player list.

Then they get default stats, which are:

Plunge: 1
DT: 5
CH%: 1
CS: 1
Strides: 1

If you have suggestions for different stats please say so. I haven't decided the amount HP yet. Players can probably level up their stats by winning a tournament. When they win, they will (or maybe a 25% or so chance) get a stat bonus.

Right now I'm still trying to get the tournament and battle system ready.

Suggestions are welcome.

For stats, I'd go with either

HP: 9
Plunge: 1
DT: 4
CH%: 1
CS: 1
Strides: 1

or

HP: 15
Plunge: 2
DT: 6
CH%: 1
CS: 1
Strides: 1

Of course, the lower the starting stats are, the better the sense of fulfillment you get when you get good. So you might could even set HP or DT lower or C%, CS, and Strides to 0. The problem is that matches between two people with a 1 Plunge rating kinda suck. So yeah.

Here are some other random ideas:

Have a percentage chance of stat increase based on the number of people competing in the tournament (this could also be based on the level of competition of the tournament in relation to the winner).

Have a basic "Do you gain stats" check, and if you succeed at that, have another check where you determine how that stats improve. The stat improvements can be based off real Notch Items (ie "You got a Blan Rock!" would increase DT by 2).

On that note, make the starting stats evenly divisible by the increase value, so start HP should be divisible by 3 and start DT by 2. Evenly divisible numbers look cooler.

You could theoretically make a stat increase system that modifies the percentage chances of each stat increasing by that stat's current level, which is cool and useful, but is freaking painful to code.

Can the plunge messages (which might get kind of obnoxious) only be seen by the people who are competing/watching? And if so, there needs to be a command to watch and a command to stop watching.

The whole point of it is to choose your stats (and eventually, blade arts {which I'm planning to go up to Step 10, which would require much balancing of the previous steps} and links) to the way you plunge.

For example, if you're a beatdown plunger who likes those extra additives to damage, you might have a high plunge, low hp, average threshold, average critical hit %, above average critical strength, low strides, average links.

Basically, the maximum number of points you're allowed at first is 125.
It follows the same settings as the classification scheme with some changes, so:

HP +1 = 1 point
Plunge +1 = 16 points
Damage Threshold +1 = 4 points
Critical Hit % +1 = 9 points
Critcal Strength +1 = 3 points
Strides +1 = 4 points

So, a person with

HP: 51
Plunge: 2
Damage Threshold: 6
Critical Hit%: 1
Critical Strength: 1
Strides: 1

fulfills that requirement.
Of course, it can be rearranged depending on how you plunge, but hopefully it's balanced enough.
The links and blade arts come later, because of all the crit % stuff that goes with it.

And yes, notch items will be possible, except that it takes a certain amount of plunges to finish them. On that note, if you have any points left over, they will become Notch Items.
So, if you have 3 points left over, that could be two heart stones or two lell rocks. (More into that later.)

------------------------------------
Edit:
Here, let me try again.

HP +1 = 1 point
Plunge +1 = 16 points
Damage Threshold +1 = 4 points
Critical Hit % +1 = 23 points
Critcal Strength +1 = 11 points
Strides +1 = 5 points
Link % are all 5%

So, you'd need 145 points then. Hopefully that's it.

HP: 51
Plunge: 2
Damage Threshold: 6
Critical Hit%: 1
Critical Strength: 1
Strides: 1

Well that system completely beats mine, so yeah.

As far as the point values go (in relation to the stats Rhue winds up with in episode 6), I think the HP, Plunge, and DT variables are pretty accurate, but Crit% should be higher and more comparable to Plunge (you wind up with ~25 plunge and ~12 Crit%), CritStr should be a lot higher, probably a little over half as high as Crit%, and Strides should probably be slightly higher, like 5 points.

I'm beat, but naturally we can try this out to see if it's unbalanced.

okay. I'll give it another shot.

I'm thinking Critical Hit% should be higher once Blade Arts and Link Attacks get put in.

Critical Strength...I'm not so sure I agree with you. You need either a high enough crit hit % or Downpour to be effective. (along with new blade arts that may or may not require it)

Strides, I agree.

----

Relating to your previous post, stats will be gained through plunging and random events. All of which is recorded by Notch Items.

There will be several known ones, and possibly new ones as well.

Shock Rock: +2 HP <--- possible
Heart Stone: +3 HP
Essence Stone: +5 HP <--- possible
Lyn Rock: +1 Plunge
Spiked Rock: +1 Damage Threshold <--- most likely not
Blan Rock: +2 Damage Threshold
Kritar Shell: +1 Critical Hit %
Kritar Snail: +2 Critical Hit % <--- possible
Lell Rock: +1 Critical Strength
Vide Rock: +2 Critical Strength <--- most likely not
Stricite: +1 Strides
Faithful Heart: +7 HP, +1 All other plunge stats
Loyal Heart: +10 HP, +2 All other plunge stats <--- still thinking about this one
Cross Stone: +5% Cross Sweep Link
Lunge Stone: +5% Lunge Cut Link
Drop Stone: +5% Drop Slash Link
Linking Stone: -1 Plunge, +10% All links

~-~

Changes are also in the Blade Arts as well. This is what's on the drawing board...

Step 1 Blade Arts:
Sharpened Edge: Deals 1-4 extra damage. Can only be used four times in one plunge.
New High: Raises Damage Threshold 1-2 points. Has a base chance of 20%.
Critical Eye: Raises Critical Hit% by 1-3%. Effect lasts for four passes after the last Critical Eye.
Cool Wind: Restores 2-5 health. Has a base chance of 95%.
Ray of Light: Raises Plunge 0-2 points. Has a base chance of 15%.

Step 2 Blade Arts:
Jagged Edge: Deals 2-6 extra damage. Can only be used four times in one plunge.
Crippler: Lowers enemy Damage Threshold 1-2 points. Has a base chance of 25%.
Dust Spray: Lowers Critical Hit% by 2-4% for both players. Effect lasts for four passes for the enemy.
Fenshu: Absorb 1-2 FP of your opponent. Has a base chance of 95%.
Lanner: Lowers Plunge 0-2 points. Has a base chance of 20%.

Step 3 Blade Arts:
Burning Edge: Deals 3-8 extra damage. Can only be used four times in one plunge.
Second Wind: Resets one random link cost to 1 FP. Base chance is 10%.
Refreshing Gust: Restores 3-6 health. Has a base chance of 85%.
Slick Grip: Enemy cannot use a risk attack next turn. Can only be used once in a plunge and has a base chance of 75%.
Parry: Take no damage if both attacks are the same. Base chance is 5%.

Step 4 Blade Arts:
Slammer: Deals 4-10 extra damage. Can only be used thrice in one plunge.
Twin Edge: Adds 15% to attack modifier. (a.k.a. If you choose the right/wrong attack, you get/take a 55% bonus instead of 40%)
Mend: Restore one exhausted slot to full usability.
Narcism: Lower your own plunge by 1 to lower opponent's plunge by 2-5. Base chance of lowering opponent's plunge is 75%.
Backlash: Add damage equal to a roll of your plunge/4.

Step 5 Blade Arts:
Destroyer: Deals 5-12 extra damage. Can only be used thrice in one plunge.
Weak Link: Drops enemy's strongest link by a base percentile of 15%. Has a base chance of 50%.
Slot Plug: Plugs 1 blade art slot for 2-5 passes. Has a base chance of 40%.
Strong Link: Raises weakest link by a base percentile of 15%. Has a base chance of 50%.
Inception: Raises Plunge 1-3 points. Has a base chance of 20%.

Step 6 Blade Arts:
Ravager: Deals 6-14 extra damage. Can only be used thrice in one plunge.
Mass Mend: Restore all blade arts back to usability. Base chance is 65%.
Pinpoint: Halves damage, but adds an injury level every 10 damage. Automatic 1st degree injury and cannot be a 4th.
Downpour: Restore HP equal to a Critical Strength roll. Does not work if result leads to a Blue oval.
Venshu: Absorb 2-3 FP of your opponent. Has a base chance of 90%.

Step 7 Blade Arts:
Annihilation: Deals 7-16 extra damage. Can only be used twice in one plunge.
Black Hole: FP of both players is removed one by one and stops when at least one player has reached 0 FP.
Blindside: Critical Hit is achieved every time. Base chance is 20%.
Double Plug: Plugs 1-2 blade art slots each for 2-5 passes. Has a base chance of 30%.
Link to the Sky: If C. Sweep, L. Cut, and D. Slash's links total a random number between 50% and 150%, you deal a base of 200% damage.

Step 8 Blade Arts:
Extermination: Deals 8-18 extra damage. Can only be used twice in one plunge.
Snapper: Sets enemy's strongest link to 0%. Base chance is 35%.
Dual Edge: Adds 25% to attack modifier.
Strong Bonds: Sets weakest link to 100%. Base chance is 35%.
Ender: Deal a 4th degree injury if enemy Plunge is lower by 8 or more and deals 20% of current health regardless. Has a base chance of 5%

Step 9 Blade Arts:
Decimation: Deals 9-20 extra damage. Can only be used twice in one plunge.
Sheathed Strike: If used with a Cross Slash, damage is multiplied by a base of 150%. Otherwise, deal half damage.
Driving Spirit: If used with a Lunge Cut, damage is multiplied by a base of 150%. Otherwise, deal half damage.
Follow Through: If used with a Drop Slash, damage is multiplied by a base of 150%. Otherwise, deal half damage.
Ascension: Raises Plunge 2-4 points. Has a base chance of 25%.

Step 10 Blade Arts:
Crestfallen: Deals 10-22 extra damage. Can only be used once in one plunge.
Gambling Spirit: Whoever does the most damage wins. Effect does not work if Plunge levels are not the same.
Triple Plug: Plugs 2-3 blade art slots each for 2-5 passes. Has a base chance of 20%.
Senshu: Absorb 3-4 FP of your opponent. Has a base chance of 85%.
The Way: Resets all attributes of opponent except HP to normal and enemy always takes +1 injury.

~-~

The plunges will be in a different channel than #theway, so if you don't want to see it, just leave or set the bot to ignore.
The commands should be given in PM as to not let your opponent know about what you're going to do.

Risk attacks are shown, but not Link (unless a successful link is shown). Blade Arts are shown on each end and commands can be as follows:

!add = Initiate a PM where you can choose your stats. You'll then be asked to provide a username and password. Don't lose it.
!login <username> <password> = Logs you in.
!logout = Duh.
!plunge = Initiate a plunge or accept an initiated plunge.
!stat = Shows colors of HP, DT, and PL for both players in PM. (can be done by anyone)
!cancel = Cancel your plunge initiation.

In PM
!cross = Use Cross Sweep
!lunge = Use Lunge Cut
!drop = Use Drop Slash
(Add an R to the end for risk or L to the end for link)
!stat = Find out your colors of HP, DT, PL, and C%

On occastions, there can be tournaments by which people can decide what the prizes will be and at what time. (Usually a Lyn Rock or Blan Rock)
I'll let some more people add on, I'm done for now.

Thanks for the help and excellent suggestions! I just finished the register/login/logout system you suggested.

Instead of !drop/!cross/!lunge I made "!attack drop/dropslash/cross/cross sweep/lunge/lunge cut", which is easier to manage. Tomorrow I have more time so I can hopefully start making the battle system.
